Ugh - I have had a horrible d&v bug. I ate nothing at all yesterday and had only water to drink. I haven't been sick for over 12 hours now and am just beginning to feel a bit hungry. What could I eat? Am scared of being sick again. Also - every bit of my body aches but mostly my chest and pelvis; would it be okay to have some neurofen do you think?

I'm the same!! Was sick all day Tuesday - last night I had 2 boiled new potatoes for dinner!! Today I intend to eat some toast!!

Yes take pain killers!

SwearyMary · 12/05/2011 08:10

I wouldn't advise Neurofen, its too harsh on the gut. Have a slice of toast, plain and a weak cup of tea with sugar, if you can. If that seems ok then take a couple of paracetamols (without added caffeine or aspirin) for the aches.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 12/05/2011 08:14

Thank you. I'm trying a v weak decaf coffee at the moment; I felt I needed the warmth.

There is deffo something horrible going around. I just hope that the dds don't get it as they both have exams next week.

Just had a slice of toast - fingers crossed.

I've just had this too Sad.

I was sick (etc. Grin) from 10pm last night until 6am this morning (every 30mins - 1 hour).

I've had water and 2 cups of tea so far, but quite fancy some fruit juice, or possibly lucozade. DH has taken the day off to look after DS (8.5 months). I really hope they don't get it Sad.

Does anyone know if it's possible to differentiate between D+V virus and food poisoning? In a way, I'd prefer that it was food poisoning, and that it was caused by something that DH and DS happened not to eat.

OnlyWantsOne · 12/05/2011 10:27

oxfordcomma Envy at your dp taking the day off, i was alone, and vomming hourly with 22 week old breast fed baby and a 4 yr old i couldnt get to school :(

luckily, no one else has had it - fingers crossed

oxfordcomma · 12/05/2011 10:32

Oh, poor you OnlyWantsOne. I hope your toast experiment today goes well.

I read your message to DH; he was pleased Smile. Soon, he's going to try a Skype call for work, while looking after DS. This may be entertaining Grin.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 12/05/2011 17:00

Hope you're both feeling better.

Dp bought me some lucozade but I can't drink it - I was v sick with both of my pregnancies and the first sip brought that feeling back.

I have now had a piece of toast and two digestives. Am really startinh to feel hungry now and am hopefully better apart the general tiredness and aches.

Any one else got a killer head ache ??

oxfordcomma · 12/05/2011 17:47

I've been drinking Lucozade, but just noticed that it says on the bottle that it shouldn't be used to replace fluid lost by diarrhoea Sad. Oh well, back to tea Grin.

Glad you're starting to feel a bit better CBBG. I had a headache too OWO, but it's improved now that I'm starting to get more hydrated.

I've been texting my friend who had something that sounds very similar on Sat + Sun. She said that she was able to do some things on Mon, but that her tummy still didn't feel right, and that she still can't eat a lot at one time (on Thurs!). Sad She also said that her DS didn't get it (her DH did), and that she doesn't know of any babies that have got it.

Hope everyone continues to feel better Smile.

It's nice to have a D+V bug support thread.

Have had a terrible headache but it seems to be on the mend now. Need to drag myself into work tomorrow - any tips for strengthening me up before then?

You really need to stay off until you have had no diarrhoea and no vomiting for 48 hrs. Eat starchy stuff - pasta/bread/potatoes. Avoid fatty and sugary stuff.
nhs stuff here

dehydration will aggravate the headaches - lots of fluids, rehydrations sachets if you have them.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 12/05/2011 21:47

Thanks Moaning. I haven't been sick since early Weds morning, so should be okay.

DH has it now Sad.

At least I've recovered enough to look after DS though. All I could (just about) do yesterday was breastfeed.
