Oy oy and runners, should I be feeling this increasingly poorly three days post half marathon, tempted to go to a&e

Silly ol' me did it at 4 days notice, and furthest I've done was 10k race for life last year.

Felt achey but fine sunday and monday, just bad blood sugar crashing, nausea, shivers etc.

So have taken it easy. But today I'm coming out in bruises all up my legs. Went back to work, taught some classes ( I instruct pilates and kiddies street dance), came out gasping for breath (and I wasn't even after the marathon)

Now I'm getting palpitations, pins and needles up my legs, pins in my shoulders and feel like I could just lay down and die.

Is this normal?

Really don't want to be the girl laughed at for rocking up to a &e cos she did a little run...

Well maybe not a wind up maybe she was just a bit delirious. Seems weird to be posting on here for 6 hours stating very worrying symptoms asking "should I go to A&E?" then ignoring everyone who told her to do so!

I hope she is ok and it was nothing serious.

foxinsocks · 12/05/2011 19:03

Wish, she was probably talking about kilometres. She sounded delirious. I think it was bruxeur's post about the transplant that got her attention tbh, thank goodness!

Hope op is ok.

How sad shine.

(shiney apols for hijacking thread - but I think it was you who told me about the vit b deficiency! You saved my barnet and possibly my health! They did another blood test and I had some massive deficiencies due to malabsorption so I am on supplements and feeling far better so thank you for tipping me off).

Hope the OP is OK!

I was reading this at 4am whilst feeding my DS; I was totally baffled trying to work out if the OP was drunk or not, she didn't seem to be listening to anyones advice and making a bit of a joke of some quite serious symptoms. I hope she's okay?

crabb · 13/05/2011 03:55

.

laptopwieldingharpy · 13/05/2011 04:07

been lurking, worrying that she's not back here.

PainteditRed · 13/05/2011 09:32

Hi, I asked my brother to update but he clearly failed at that.

I have a really bad UTI and some ligament damage to my knee. Have to see a specialist but it looks like I will need an op :(

Forgotten how poorly a uti can make you

laptopwieldingharpy · 13/05/2011 09:36

Hi Painted, you got everyone really worried here!
oh that sounds bad, but clearly a little bit relieved, that bruising on your legs and dizziness sounded very alarming!
Hope you can fix the knee with physio.

PainteditRed · 13/05/2011 09:47

I got a serious telling off from the paramedic, she said I should have called 999 hours ago...I just didn't want to waste anyones time really, but they took it quite seriously...drained half my blood for testing, ct scan, ultrasound etc.

I'm just glad to be home, going to curl up in bed with a big pot of tea.

PainteditRed · 13/05/2011 09:49

I work with a sports therapist and she's going to come round tomorrow and take a look at it for me.

shineoncrazydiamond 'issues'?

OP posts:
crabb · 13/05/2011 10:02

Phew! Glad it wasn't as serious as it might have been.

PainteditRed · 13/05/2011 10:39

The doctors had no idea what rhabdomyolysis was btw, and were furious at my attempts at self diagnosis.

OP posts:
whyohwhydowebother · 13/05/2011 10:49

Who exactly were these doctors who didn't know what rhabdo was? Are you sure they didn't? It's a pretty big diagnosis, and anyone who didn't know about it shouldn't really be in the Emergency Department (or have a medical degree).

springbokscantjump · 13/05/2011 11:14

Hmm I'd be pretty amazed if they didn't know what rhabdo was... And pretty worried...

PainteditRed · 13/05/2011 11:43

And to whoever upthread said 13.5 miles is nowt to a fit person.

Try it! I do faffy exercise and dance. so I have good core stability, but don't do anything cardio

I couldn't even drink a cup of tea after it as I felt so nauseous

Glad that you're ok, OP. Make sure to drink lots and lots of water and rest that knee Smile

bruxeur · 13/05/2011 12:38

Well that all sounds like complete bollocks.

Obviously shiney's diagnosis much more accurate than mine, based on previous experience of patient.

foxinsocks · 13/05/2011 14:14

lol bruxeur. You are a true star.

larrygrylls · 13/05/2011 14:31

Painted it,

I said it. I did not mean it was "nowt". I meant it was not enough exercise to do serious physical damage to someone who was fit. And, yes, I have done it (with training). I trotted around in just over 2 hours and was very tired, but no real ill effects. And, a couple of v fit people I know joined at the last min (with no training) and ran round together in 1 hour 50 mins. But they were both talented athletes in their time.
