Oy oy and runners, should I be feeling this increasingly poorly three days post half marathon, tempted to go to a&e

Silly ol' me did it at 4 days notice, and furthest I've done was 10k race for life last year.

Felt achey but fine sunday and monday, just bad blood sugar crashing, nausea, shivers etc.

So have taken it easy. But today I'm coming out in bruises all up my legs. Went back to work, taught some classes ( I instruct pilates and kiddies street dance), came out gasping for breath (and I wasn't even after the marathon)

Now I'm getting palpitations, pins and needles up my legs, pins in my shoulders and feel like I could just lay down and die.

Is this normal?

Really don't want to be the girl laughed at for rocking up to a &e cos she did a little run...

Go to A&E. They won't think you are timewasting. I am sure that any medic would prefer to spend time reassuring you there is nothing wrong than missing something serious.

PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 02:47

It's marching on to GP opening now, and I trust him implicitly I really do.

bruxeur · 12/05/2011 03:24

Could be rhabdomyolysis. Need to check your CK and renal function. Entirely appropriate A+E attendance.

PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 03:29

Well I just had to google that. Bloody hell!

I've had what feels like the start of a UTI since the run too

OP posts:
PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 03:32

Woah and actually first few wees I had this morning were blood, assumed my period was starting early or something.

Terrified now, and no way am I seeing anyone. Rather do a lalalalala

OP posts:
bruxeur · 12/05/2011 03:34

Good luck with the renal failure! No way you'll get to the top of the transplant list before you die, of course.

PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 03:38

From what I googled it's an after effect, treatable short term thing.

Surely!?

OP posts:
PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 03:39

And what's with the harsh tone?

OP posts:
bruxeur · 12/05/2011 03:41

I think the key word there is treatable. "No way am I seeing anyone...lalalalalala" is not terribly effective as treatment. You might almost say it is not treatment at all.

PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 03:42

That was a joke...I'm actually sitting terrified wondering who to call.

My gran however lived til 92 with just half a kidney, even getting herself on the bus for dialysis every week...

shit maybe it's genetic to have weak kidneys too too

I'm a screaming idiot.

OP posts:
bruxeur · 12/05/2011 03:43

A taxi. Now. Seriously.

PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 03:44

I'm writing this down brux but bet I get a blank look from the a&e docs

My GP however would be all over it, even if he'd never heard of it, he rings around, even ,shock horror googles.

so a&e or GP at 8?

OP posts:
PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 03:45

Mumsnetter from aeons ago btw, I remember you.

And god, if you've saved my life

I may have to bring out an unmumsnetty snog

OP posts:
bruxeur · 12/05/2011 03:52

A+E. TBH I am being overly dramatic about likely outcome but you seemed to be ignoring advice. Glad you're not now.

May just be flu - who knows? That's why you need to see someone now.

If an A+E doctor hasn't heard of rhabdo they need shooting.

PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 03:57

On phone again to nhs d.

Thing is I did wreck my knee on friday during a post marathon run, bashed it to bits really, and now the bruises spreading up etc all seems to fit in

If ever there was better safe than sorry this is it methinks.

Though NHSD nurse did say as I wasn't gasping and was lucid I was clearly fit and well, and I just listened.....Do you need to feign near death ffs!?

OP posts:
PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 03:58

snigger at shooting the a&e doctors, I do tend to get a bit maternal and want to straighten their glasses for them. terrible patient I am.

OP posts:
PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 04:01

pre marathon run on friday...wasn't a run really, it started as it then became a lark in the park where I face planted after tripping over a log and fell a good few metres through woodland on a steep incline.

Never wise me

OP posts:
GapsAGoodUn · 12/05/2011 04:10

Painted, please go to a and e now.

Please?

ellifino · 12/05/2011 04:10

Oh my god!

You complete wally. Go to A&E now.

You have children. You have to get this checked out and be safe.

PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 04:19

Still waiting for a call back from nhsd

I am sooo paranoid A&E will recognise me as that over the top mother that takes her child in for the mildest scrape.

(will never live down DD about to go for a lumbar puncture and a student nurse wiping off the 'rash' with a wet wipe...twas felt tip...oh my)

OP posts:
PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 04:21

But fankoo for all of your concern, I will be checked out one way or the other

OP posts:
ilovesprouts · 12/05/2011 04:23

.

PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 04:34

Still waiting on a call back from nhsd

And whilst doing a mad dash' just in case' hospital bag realised I must have left my bag in my dads car

So I have a grand £3 for a cab to the hospital

Or walk down and knock my dad and sister up (who is revising for her finals so no way)

Walk the four miles to hospital (nowt in comparison to running 23.5)

wait for G.P to open

Or call 999

God I'm a dithery person and at times like this I need someone to take the dither out of my hands.

Not expecting you lot to, just mulling it over and letting you know the situation.

OP posts:
Tuggy · 12/05/2011 04:40

How would you get to the gp on £3? Or is it close? How shit do you feel? If you're still really experiencing the dizzy/palpatations then call an ambulance. If you're not dizzy then drive yourself. Either way I think you should write down symptom list and go now.

PainteditRed · 12/05/2011 04:43

No way I would drive, It'd be worse than a drunk driver.

It took me a good three minutes to put my toothbrush into its cse ;

Feel worse than before bit if I'm siting and upright I feel fine, very very odd.

after bruxeurs link though realised I hven't had a piss since 55am yesterday, that cant be good.

Just don't want to waste anyones time, though surely this time of night in darkest south yorkshire (sticks) nothing much is going on?
