I had my worse night yet last night.
I was literally drenched in sweat, really smelly in the morning. Weird sort of rotton chicken smell.
This has been going on for 9 days now and my temperature is still 34.2 even during the day.
This morning I started to sweep the kitchen floor w3hich is becoming a health hazard but had to throw the brush down and be violently sick in the sink five times.
Is that the amoxicillan?

Also, this is so bad now I'm thinking TB. Can anyone convince me otherwise? Please?

Got to try to feed baby now. Will check on this soon.

I dont think it is the Amoxycillin, but I have a rotten chest infection and I am waking up in a sweat most mornings.

I would go back to your Doctor PDQ.

What made you think of TB ??

LilacBump · 09/11/2005 10:15

i didn't have any trouble with it. how long have you got to take it for?

WigWamBam · 09/11/2005 10:18

Strangely enough, I've been on Amoxycillin for a week, been OK until last night but spent all night drenched in smelly sweat, and running to the loo with the runs and throwing up. I'm blaming the Amoxycillin, although I don't feel so bad this morning, just a bit nauseous.

It sounds to me as if you ought to get yourself back to the GP, just to be on the safe side.

Hope you feel better soon.

triceratops · 09/11/2005 10:18

Your symptoms sound very similar to when my dh had hepatitis A (he caught it from the canteen at work - it only takes someone to not wash their hands) he was ill with serious night sweats for about a month.

We thought TB at first because that is what you get when you google night sweats. The doc thought he had leukemia for a while but the blood test showed not. Antibiotics are not going to touch a virus like hep A and amoxycillin won't do anything for TB.

I would ask your GP to do some blood work and see how your liver is doing if I were you.

NotQuiteCockney · 09/11/2005 10:18

I think for TB, you have to have a depressed immune system and lots of contact with infected people. You can live with someone with TB, and not catch it, as long as your house is well-ventilated.

(Also, I think you cough up blood?)

Whatever it is, though, get yourself to the GP. The bad sweat smell may be the amoxicillan (what was it prescribed for?). Are you taking anything to help yourself sleep? I find cocodamol does the trick, if I'm ill enough.

triceratops · 09/11/2005 10:19

But obviously you have to finish your course of antibiotics whatever once you have started them or you may make a superbug.

NotQuiteCockney · 09/11/2005 10:21

Oh, antibs do nuke your gut sometimes.

Here's Medline on the subject:

Amoxicillin may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

upset stomach
vomiting
diarrhea

Some side effects can be serious. The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:

severe skin rash
hives
seizures
yellowing of the skin or eyes
unusual bleeding or bruising
pale skin
excessive tiredness
lack of energy

Amoxicillin may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.

So yeah, vomiting is the antibs. Talk to your GP?

titchy · 09/11/2005 10:42

Yep Amoxycilin makes me throw up violently so I never take it now. Get your GP to prescribe something else instead. It's a fairly common reaction so you shouldn't have a problem gatting something else.

iota · 09/11/2005 10:45

Amoxil brings me out in a rash - I take Erythromycin instead

spidermama · 09/11/2005 14:36

Thanks. Things gone worse. Going to hosp now as per docs orders.

Blu · 09/11/2005 14:42

Spidermama, you sound very poorly. Good luck at the hospital, and I hope they get to the bottom of it.

triceratops · 09/11/2005 17:56

I hope they manage to sort you out SM. Get well soon.

sickandtired · 09/11/2005 18:46

i was given this for an infection after ds2's birth, it made me sooooo ill i ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics instead

Angela2005 · 09/11/2005 22:21

Amoxycillin, yuck. Made me vomit lots, and I think i sweated too, yes.

You CAN stop a course of antibiotics if it's making you more ill, you just have to make sure you take another type to kill off the bug.

Blu · 09/11/2005 22:32

Spidey? Are you back? What's happening?

WigWamBam · 09/11/2005 22:33

I was wondering about her too. Hope everything's OK.

starandsnowshaker · 09/11/2005 22:37

BadgerBadger · 10/11/2005 13:03

Spidermama, how are you now? I hope things have improved for you.

NotQuiteCockney · 10/11/2005 13:25

This is a bit worrisome. Presumably she's resting up and getting better ...

LadySherlockofLGJ · 10/11/2005 16:37

Funny place MN, you find yourself worrying over people you don't really "know".

Hope things are OK, SM.

WigWamBam · 10/11/2005 16:41

I hope she's OK, been thinking about her all day.
