So, I have just been for my smear. Hate having them as the nurse usually makes me bleed and she says that my cervix is high up and tilted.
Different nurse this time, have seen her loads of time with DS1 who has asthma, she is super lovely.
She asks if there are any problems and I say no but mention about trying to find my cervix etc....
She has a look and said oh yes I can see why it is usually difficult, but you have muscle control which most women would die for
and she said there is another position to do a smear but it includes a bit of patient participation...
I had to lie on my left side with my right leg bent but in the air which I had to hold.
I cannot tell you how easy that smear was - didn't feel a thing and she found my cervix no problem. Said she was trained by a gynacologist (sp) and not many nurses know about doing a smear this way. She said she is going to get the other nurses in the surgery to start doing the same.
So what I really want to say is - if you are like me with a high up tilted back cervix ask to have your smear the way I did.
I won't mind going again next time and will certainly book with the same nurse.
