Thumb - Paronychia - Pain - Advice?

Have a massively painful thumb with what I think is an infection around the thumb. It hurts, like you would not believe. I have doused it in TCP but just wondered if anyone had any experience of making these things go away or less painful? TIA! (ow!)

If its infected you'll need to go to the GP to get it lanced. I had paronychia when I was 4, and I remember it vividly! For now just use a hot compress, it'll draw the pus to the surface and make i easier to lance. Or if you have such thing as magnesium sulphate in your house, spread it on thick and bandage over it. I'd take some paracetemol though how much that helps is debatable. Just go to bed and call the surgery in the morning. They will always see you same day for an infection of any sort.

thanks - been to Dr and have antibiotics. Apparently, I'll have to drain it myself. Narsty. Very Narsty!
