However I didn't think it was infected just swollen and inflamed so didn't take the antibiotics. Now I have a red rash over alot of my elbow and arm which is raised and red and hot and was spreading but now seems to have stopped spreading. I've started to take the antibiotics, could I take a double dose for a few doses to kick start so to speak?

The antibiotics are fluxocillin.

You should do what it says on the leaflet! Some types have a double dose to start with, but most don't. You have to trust the people who write the leaflets to know what is the best way to take that medicine - changing from that won't work any better, else the instructions would tell you to do that instead IYSWIM

Should work if you take them as prescribed. Although if you start to feel flu like symptoms (hot, shivery) you should probably see GP asap.

Hmm, just feel a bit silly for not taking them to start with but really didn't want to take them unnecessarily.

Feeling rather silly now. I've got now other symptoms than the rash which is quite like cellulitis. ( Mum has this frequently).
