Early miscarriage ....

I'm worrying myself about this ... how likely am I to need 'surgical intervention' (ie. D&C or whatever they're called nowadays) if bleeding started at 6w2days? Bleeding is heavy with small clots but not desperately heavy IYKWIM. Am going for scan in a couple of days to see what's happening but meantime would appreciate reassurance that they won't want to do anything to help it along. TIA

I think they will probably wait & see what happens naturally & then follow up with blood tests to check if hormone levels are going down ok with possibly a further scan

I miscarried at 7 weeks and had nothing. Told to take painkillers..nothing else.
I did think I would have had a follow up call from GP or something.
I am so sorry you are going through this and here if you need to chat.

Thank you ... that puts my mind at ease. At this stage, I'm very certain that the embryo has long gone but am just worried that they'll be putting me under a ga before I can say jack robinson. Am just really surprised that with a miscarriage this early, they're wanting to scan me at all ... and talking about me might needing an 'evacutation. Oh well.

I think they scan just so that they can confirm what's happened.

HMo2: No ... hadn't even told GP I was pregnant until today when to cut long story short, nurse at hospital suggested I should have scan so I called GP to get his opinion. Will ask hospital to do bloods on Thursday. Do you mind if I ask you a question? You said you m'c'd at around 6w ... did the bleeding last same as or longer than normal period? My bleeding atm is much lighter than last month's period (which was exceptionally heavy) but still, imho, far too much to allow anything to remain in uterus. TIA.

WBW - thanks ... that's what I hoped - and that it wouldn't necessarily mean they planned further action.

HMo2 ... tmi to follow ...this sounds stupid but I usually use tampons and am using pads this time so finding it hard to compare BUT although it's what I would class as period-type-flow, it's not as heavy as my period last month. They only returned about 3 mths ago cos of b'feeding my little one so have been v. heavy to date and this is definitely lighter but with small clots - certainly wouldn't class it as spotting. I think the fact that up until about 4/5 days ago I had lots of nausea and that has completely gone, is giving me a strong pointer aside from the bleeding, that it's all over. But yes, I shall definitely ask them to do bloods cos I'd be interested in whether my progesterone levels would've been high enough to sustain a pregnancy and also the scan will let us know for sure that there's nothing left . What a rollercoaster couple of weeks ago from the surprise of the pregnancy to this.

Firecracker I am thinking of you,i have had 2 miscarriages, quite a bit of bleeding both times at 7 weeks and 10 weeks but no interventions thank goodness

auntymandy · 09/11/2005 12:22

I bled for more thana week. It stopped and started. Slow to start then heavy large clot and then slow for a while.
I had no bloods taken or anything. although I wanted it all forgotten I do think someone should have seen me afterwards. I rang GP to say I was bleeding he booked me for a scan had scan sent home end of...

Just a quick update ... as I thought the scan showed that the pregnancy has gone - no sac but the only problem is that my lining is still pretty thick. I need to go back for another scan next Thurs - praying that the lining will have gone by then as they're talking about surgery is not - yuch. Thanks for all the support - I've really appreciated it. Meantime, keep your fingers crossed that I lose this lining pretty darn quick!
