39 weeks pregnant and a stabbing pain in my back...

Having an argument with DH about whether this means I have to phone somebody. Have taken some pain killers. Pain still there. Ligament pain? Should I ring anybody now, or can it be left to tomorrow? Baby moving fine.

Well, do the pain killers help? Can you cope with the pain? Do you have any other symptoms?

It's not wrong phoning someone, if you're worried or in significant discomfort.

Not qualified to answer myself, but didn't want your post to go unanswered. Perhaps post this in Pregnancy and call nhs/midwife just to be sure?

Hope you're ok!

pain is manageable, just hurts when I move around a bit. No other symptoms. Shall give the numbers a call and see what they say.

some people get contractions in their back and not across their tummy.

breadandhoney · 08/05/2011 20:15

definitely call and get some advice. My contractions were all in my back - I felt nothing across my tummy. However, they started out dull, as opposed to the stabbing pain you describe.

tigana · 08/05/2011 20:24

I had back labour. My pain "improved" when I moved about and it came and went in waves, like 'normal' contractions. and no stabbing..

If it is worse when moving about, and isn't coming and going, I wonder if it is more likely ligament or muscle spasm ( of a non-labour variety)?
