I think I am ovulating. Am getting quite bad pain on the right had side of my abdomen. get it each month but worse this time. My cycle is 29-35 days (so a bit irregular. I am now about day 16. It's so bad i've taken some paracetamol (nothing stronger as TTC). I don't remember having this before DS (14 months) but was always on the pill and got pg as soon as I came off it. Is this normal? Anyone else had it? Any remedies?

bumping this- as i am in excruciating pain this month- feels like contractions

I get this some months, it can be very painful. It can be more painful than my period in terms of cramps. Hot water bottle and bed with pain killers help ease it for me.

sprinkles (and the other posters),

I have had similar symptoms in the past in terms of pain; in my case the underlying cause was endometriosis.

Any symptoms that are cyclical in nature or get worse up to and including menstruation should be checked out further by a gynaecologist. It may be endometriosis actually causing the pain (particularly as it is cyclical in nature). Endo can also start mid cycle as well.

I would be asking the GP to refer you - these types of problems are outside a GPs remit. Would also suggest you and the other respondents on here keep a pain/symptom diary; this can also be helpful to the gynae.

I would not leave this but pursue answers; you will need to be persistant in order to get answers as some GPs are not great when it comes to such female related issues.

www.endo.org.uk is a good website.

I get ovulation pain and sometimes it alternates, right side one month, left the next month. Mine is usually gone within 24 though. Period comes 14 days after the pain.

I take paracetemol or similar if it's bad. I don't have endo or anything, just can feel the ovulation. If you are constipated it can seem worse as the bowel presses against the ovary. The follicle in the ovary that contains the egg gets quite big - up to 25 mm before the egg is released from the ovary.

It's also called mittelschmerz if you want to google further.

i'd never noticed untill i'd had a baby, then realised my cramps were ovulating pain. i don't notice it every month and it's not bad enough for me to want to take anything for it.

good luck if you're ttc. the first time i noticed ovulating pain i conceived that day!

I've been getting ovulation pain since I had my last baby. It was really bad at first but got better over the first year and now it's very mild. I hd an infection post birth and wondered if that might be something to do with it.

Hi all, I am 45 and had 6 children all vaginal births. I have noticed excruciating pain lately during ovulation. not all months, but most. i have had a tubaligation and during that surgery they removed two large cysts from my left ovary and three larger cysts and one abnormal growth larger than a golf ball from my right. They said that they removed a portion of the ovary doing that. I now have this strange pain in my right side and my lower right side swells up and you can notice it when I lie on my back. The pain feels so intense at times and it extends all the way to my hip bone. Makes it hard to move in bed, very painful. It goes away in a day and then I am back to normal. I also get really sore breasts, I can't even touch them. It feels like swollen lactating breasts, that lasts for about 3 days. Anyone had this? This has been happening for about 3 years now and all my gyne check ups are fine.

I had a full set of investigations for endometriosis (GP and consultant very understanding and thorough) about 9 years ago. All fine, and I don't get any other symptoms. last month the pain lasted on and off for a week. this month it was very bad yesterday morning but has eased off considerably today. I guess may be a variation on normal.
