Excessive wind - so embarrassing

At the moment I am suffering from excessive wind and it's awful. I have a healthy diet of mostly fish, veg and pulses and very occasionally red meat. I eat bread sometimes and usual party food sometimes (crisps etc).

What an be the cause and more importantly how can I stop it?

I have the same problem and it is getting worse. With me, I think it is when I eat onions or spicy food which are hard to digest. I have also noticed it is worse when I am stressed and especially if I eat too fast.
I asked my doctor becasue I thought it might be a sign of something more serious but she did not seem concerned.

Sorry I can't help, maybe some one else will

I used to have this problem for years.
I read somewhere that bio yoghurt helps and I have found it works like magic. I don't much like the stuff but I buy the big pots and eat some with fruit at least 3/4 times a week.

Thanks. I already eat activia yoghurts which I believe are bio. I'm definitely guilty of eating too fast. I also eat onions and spicy food.

Thxs for the tip about the bio yogurt, I will google it and definately start including it in my diet. I will let u know if it helps.

It would make sense if u eat quickly and talk too much at the same time, u r more likely to get air trapped or is this just me showing my ignorance about the digestive system.
Thxs again!.

Sorry for typo

I would second yogurt

My mother swears by a tsp of bran a day. She mixes it with orange juice and drinks it (boak)

Silly question, but are you sure your trousers/skirt/tights aren't too tight?
No, really! When mine are (ie when I've put on weight), the waistband digs into me a bit and - here comes the non-science bit - constricts me. Much farting ensues.

Otherwise, def consider live yoghurt, or a GOOD acidophulus tablet. Ideally one you keep in fridge.
Also, per above, consider for a minute if there are any patterns. Triggers could be anything, but often onion, (bell) pepper - both especially when not 100% cooked. Also oily foods.
