Blisters/spots in my poor gob. What's wrong with me?

I have about 8 little yellow spots/blisters on the inside of the roof of my mouth.
I've had them about 2 days now. They are sore as hell and are burning almost constantly. I feel quite tired and run down in general. My throat is sore and my tonsils are a bit swollen but not yukky. It feels very much like oral thrush but looks different.

I have started taking diflofenac tablets and omeprazole within the last 3 days. Dont think it's anything to do with that though?

What's wrong with me and what can I do?

My dd had something like this. It was a variant of hand, foot and mouth disease that only affected the mouth, but was all the more virulent for that. Only time really helped.

droves · 04/05/2011 20:42

Could be a first time infection of cold sore virus /herpes simplex type somthing or other ?.

Or what keep calm said.

You need to go to doc and get acloiver (spelling , sorry) tablets.

chimchar · 04/05/2011 20:42

Oh bloody hell. That's not what I wanted to hear! Did it need medication and how long did it take to go?

Thanks for your reply. Most grateful! ( feeling a bit pathetic!)

Xposted droves. Shit!! Herpes? Inside my gob? Nooooo!

Do you think it could be a side effect of new meds?

droves · 04/05/2011 20:44

or to completly gross you out , it could be a S.T.I infection in the mouth/throat.

never do bj`s without condoms.

fartingfran · 04/05/2011 20:46

I had something similar, went to see GP who was altogether not bovvered but I think it was herpes as have had cold sores twice since then!

It was horrid though and took a fortnight to shift. Gargle with saltwater and no kissing your DC.

chimchar · 04/05/2011 20:52

Noooo. I refuse to believe it could be herpes. Been with thoroughly trustworthy dh for 21 years with never a coldsore between us!

[buries head]

The spots look pus filled. Nice.

It's so painful. I feel like poo.

If it is herpes /coldsore it will take up to 2 weeks to clear. it will be most painful around days 2-3. best thing is to avoid spicey/vinegary foods as it will nip like hell.
Nothing really can be done for it , but acloiver tablets can speed up healling time and stop further serious infections.
Cold sores never go away , but live in the nerve endings and can reacur at any time. some people only ever get one infection , but mostly its reacuring. Later outbreaks are milder ,and will be on or around lips or nose.its awful , you have my sympathy .

wash all cutlery really well (dishwasher , if you have one or hot water) do not share cups , drinks faceclothes ect .Change toothbrush after an outbreak.

Lastly never ever have oral sex during an outbreak as it can spread to your partner and become proper sti herpes.

You really should see you doctor as he can confirm what exactly this infection is.

I hope it clears up and you feel better soon.

DameShirleyKnot · 04/05/2011 20:56

I have the oral thrush. I am complaining all over mumsnet and Facebook and have been Sent To Bed for whining and doing Dying Swans everywhere.

You need a GP appointment if it's pus-sey I think.

droves · 04/05/2011 20:59

chimcar thats the thing , herpes/coldsore is a sneaky fucker of a virus. You could have been kissed /shared drink/cup years ago and the virus never showed up until decades later.
Its not an indicator of unfaithfullness.Smile.

i got it from my auntie who gave me a bite of her candyfloss when i was 5. Hmm...its just one of those things.

chimchar · 04/05/2011 21:04

Ok droves. I can cope with that better.

Thanks for the strokes Dameshirl. Here, have one back.

Bollocks. Drs tomoz then if it's no better.

I googlediagnosed wondered if it was tonsillitis? I read something that said a viral type can cause blisters i'n the mouth.

God love me.

fartingfran · 04/05/2011 21:06

Herpes can go for your tonsils I'm afraid :(

And I am sure I got mine from DP, who has suffered from cold sores for as long as I've known him and had one the week before my mouth went all festering. I make that 8 years of kissing him before I got it!

moaningminniewhingesagain · 04/05/2011 21:33

Stomatitis is listed among the possible side effects for both diclofenac and omeprazole.

I would have a chat with the pharmacist tomorrow - I think it is more likely to be drug side effects than a random infection TBH, but see hwat they think.

moaningminniewhingesagain · 04/05/2011 21:33

what they think, even

chimchar · 04/05/2011 21:52

Thanks moaningminnie.
It would make sense.... It's too much of a coincidence. I have to take the meds for 2 weeks.... Well, 10 days left ish.

Meh.

Many thanks everyone. Off to beddybuys now. Not the shop obviously. My bed. My very own bed. Once I've booted ds out.
