Hi all i'm hoping someone may be able to offer some help.

I had a tvt op on thursday, i went for a trial without catheter today and i couldn't go. I'm getting myself into a real state and well basically i just want to know that i'm not the only one and that it might get better!!

I've got another catheter in for another week and then i'll have another trial. i've searched and searched but can't really find anything.

Please tell me i'm not gonna be stuck with this forever.

Thanks

Hello flabby - I had a catheter for four or five weeks following a tvt. I don't remember them telling me this was a possibility before the op. I don't know about you, but I found it really painful the op itself so I did wonder if I'd had a lot of bruising/swelling.

But just to say it did get better, although it took a while. Try and get lots of rest and don't lift anything heavy unless you really have to.

thanks that makes me feel a bit better. Were you not able to go at all initially and then you were? I feel fine but nurse said there was a lot of bruising.

I can't remember - i think it may've been a bit but not much at first. They also said I had a urine infection and gave me antibiotics.

Sometimes it can be that they've been done up too tight and they can loosen it if necessary.

But it's more likely to be bruising and swelling which will settle down after a while.

Hang in there! It did take a little while for it all to be working and now (4 years later) I'm completely continent.

Not much fun in the meantime with a leg bag. I hope yours gets better soon.
