Underactive Thyriod help.

I have an Underactive Thyriod and due to me being forgetful and the bank holidays I ran out of pills and I have not taken a pill for 5 days.

I got the pills on Sat and started taking them again.

During the five days that I was not taking them I felt great, slept better, ate better and generally felt better.

Now I am back on the pills I don't feel so good.

I am going to make an appointment to see the doc to ask her advice, but my question is has anybody else who takes these pills stopped taking them and felt better?

I haven't had exactly the same situation as you, but I did start feeling quite ill on the 25mg pills I was on, so the GP did a blood test and found my dose was far too high - things had obviously changed a bit on my body since I was first DX. It does take quite a bit of tweaking to get the dosage right.

I feel much better on the lower dose (I'm only on 25mg now), so i would definitely ask for a blood test to find out what's going on. Smile HTH

my answer should have said I was felling ill on 50mg - sorry, - bit confusing Grin

Hope you get it sorted and feel better soon.

How often are you getting your bloods checked?

goodbyemrschips · 02/05/2011 11:44

every 6 months last checked in Feb.

Definitely ask for another test, mine had been fine for nearly a year on the higher dose, then from being OK in Nov. it went to being too high a dose by late January.

Some of the symptoms had on too high a dose included insomnia, very rapid heartbeat, feeling dizzy, shaking hands, loss of appetite.

Of course your problem might be something completely different (not trying to push my amateur diagnosis Grin) its just that the dose being too high never occurred to me, I thought my thyroid must be getting more underactive.

I will ring doc tomorrow.

Another thing [sorry for subject] how is your poo.

I am either constipated then get one out then have piles then have the runs.................

I will mention this as it might not be connected.

It might be connected, I would mention it. I know constipation is more associated with underactive and diarrheoa (sp?) with over active, but I was more constipated with the too high dose - GP gave me some lactulose which helps (softens the poo so its easier to pass rather than laxatives which can be a bit explosive in their effect - sorry TMI) But my bowels are back too more or less normal now the dose is sorted.
