Sore throat on one side for several days, not going away

Hi, I wondered if anyone has had this, as NHS direct is only taking urgent calls!

I started with a sore throat on Thursday evening and it's still there, but only on one side.

There is no temperature, no cold, a bit of a cough in the morning but just from sinus drainage I think?

It isn't that bad, just a pain when I swallow, and it makes my mouth taste a bit off.

The weird thing is it doesn't seem to have got any worse or any better in the last four days. I'll try and see the Dr tomorrow, if it hasn't gone, but am getting a bit concerned about it as it's so odd.

I like illnesses to move iykwim, either get better or do something interesting, so you can tell what it is! Smile

Thankyou for any input...Oh and it feels as though the gland under my jaw is swollen, though it isn't obvious that seems to be what hurts, and it refers up towards inside my ear a little bit. It doesn't seem to be a stone in the saliva gland as it's the same whether I'm eating or not.

I have this! Day 2 now. Sore throat just on the right side, hurts to swallow even just saliva. Nothing seems to ease it. It’s further down my throat, almost behind my voice box, it’s not tonsils. It also feels tender when I touch my neck on the outside. (Can’t feel any lumps) I have no other symptoms, no cough, voice is fine, no temp, no cold, no earache etc. But then I am early days compared to you guys, maybe this will come. I think it’s possibly irritation caused by nasal drip as I’ve had a runny nose recently, but apart from that I’m stumped.

claret3189 · 06/04/2020 14:16

It is worrying me to be honest. I have a white patch at the back of my throat slight ear ache and sore throat just on one side. No cough or anything. What is nasal drip not heard of that

LadySimba · 06/04/2020 17:02

Yes I’m worried, I’m dreading it being corona, we’ve already isolated for two weeks when my husband had a temp and cough for like a day.
Nasal drip is when your sensor drips down the back of your throat, gross lol but it can irritate your throat.
Hope you feel better and or find out what it is 🤦🏼‍♀️😫

Hi Everyone, I’m glad the are other people facing my same issues. I am a general worrier, I get scared quickly. I have been having this sore throat over a month now but only on one side. No hurting when swallowing. Tried everything, including antibiotics but no changes. Now occasionally my ear and gum hurts. I am seriously worried and fearing the worse. What’s worse is, can’t even be referred to any specialist or hospital..

claret3189 · 08/04/2020 09:30

Hi did your dr say anything when you got the antibiotics

claret3189 · 10/04/2020 12:39

Hope everyone is improving

I’ve had it too, my sore throat on the one side has gone and my tongue also felt swollen underneath on one side, that’s also gone in the past couple of days. It started as a dry cough nearly a month ago, then turned to a chesty cough and I did have some tightness, my sinuses inflamed which made me feel super light headed and were/still are full of mucus but I feel a lot better than a did before. Not sure what it was but it’s not very pleasant, my kids have had it too. Although I’ve still got a stuffy nose and sinuses, I appear to be getting better...

claret3189 · 12/04/2020 16:20

Hi how is your throat

Newbyy · 12/04/2020 22:08

Hi, Dr just said as he can’t see me. He reckons best I have antibiotics. I knew it won’t work as it didn’t. I am so confused, it’s over a month and still have it. Some days feels like a scratch, some days like a tonsil pain, I am going insane

RoseBing · 11/05/2020 11:58

I sympathise. I have had a sore throat for over a month too. Like you say, sctatchy and high up. No other symptoms other than a swollen lymph node on my neck right under my chin (have had this before and had a scan and all was fine). My sore throat did go away for a week but it is back now. Pain is pretty mild but I'm noticing it more and more - perhaps because I'm more and more aware of it. After a phone consultation with my GP this morning I sent some photos in - they didn't think it looked red. So now I have been sent for a blood test. Once you start worrying about something it is hard to stop. GP also suggested I try Gaviscon in case it is reflux.

Kmac08 · 08/10/2020 23:15

Anyone able to share whether or not their sore throat went away? I have a sore tonsil, only in the evening time it starts to ache, no obvious swelling or inflammation and I’ve had 2 docs look at it! My tongue is also very dry and was sore on the same side as the sore tonsil - had this around 4 weeks now! During the day it’s barely noticeable just by around 4pm it starts to hurt!
I initially had a sore throat on that side for a day or two, felt very scratchy and hurt to swallow. It faded and been left with the symptoms above.

SadieMurph · 17/01/2021 12:03

Hi all, Was there ever any updates on this issue..Sorry I know thread is old enough . I'm having the exact same symptoms as mentioned on this thread..sore throat one side, lymph node swollen on side , blocked ear one side..the doc has me on antibiotics for a bacterial infection but it does not seem to be helping. This reoccurs for me every few months I just can't seem to find out what this is...anyone have been able to get some sort of answer ?

MissTracey · 18/01/2021 20:10

Hi,

I have been having this issue for quite a bit. I have a constant sore throat and I just feel terrible. At first on the right side felt achy and it leads up to my ear but now I have stabbing pains there. I wake up some mornings feeling like I have a cold and the next day nothing.

I had an ent appointment who said try sinus stuff, which I did but no help.
So, another ent asked me to come for a nose camera and they found one of my tonsils are enlarged and it might be tonsil cancer. I’ve had an urgent mri and just waiting for results.

If anyone feels like it’s not getting better, please contact and make sure you fight to get seen. I have been literally fobbed off to gastro, thyroid and now finally ENT

Mehripoop · 15/03/2021 11:14

@MissTracey how are you now?
