panic

totally panicking about large lump (possibly lumps) i've found in my breast yesterday, seems to take whole breast up!. didn't sleep last night - part of the worry is because my mother has breast cancer currently, i have a friend who had it last year when pregnant and another friend is currently in a hospice. i'll obviously go to the doctors as soon as i can when the blasted bank holidays are over, but i was just after reassuring tales i suppose. i'm only 34 (as was my pregnant friend) and completely over-reacting, i know all the 9 out of 10 are benign etc etc but I don't know, I suppose with knowing so many people at the moment with it, some at the end of their lives, it's all i can think about. there's loads of rational explanations aren't there?

As you already know, most lumps in women your age will be benign but as you also know through personal experience, some will not though I can't help thinking merely on statistics that if you know a lot of women with breast cancer then chances are, you'll be fine. Many women's breasts are full of lumps so chances are it's nothing sinister.

Is it mobile or fixed?

I've had several lumps tested/removed/left in my breasts. I've got stitches and I've had biopsies and all of them have been cysts, fibrodenomas or suchlike. As you say yourself 9 out of 10 are benign. I've just actually had my annual mammogram and there are lots of little cysts in my breasts. Some have been there for years, some have disappeared over time. My consultant says everything is completely normal.

(I'd probably had 2 biopsies by the time I was 34)
