With a JML Vee slicer, and had awful flashbacks for 2-3 weeks..still freaks me out to explain to people what has happened..4 Natural childbirths caused me much less issues..(had gas and air) but I still cry at seeing them (thoughts of my finger tips lying on the floor),......but now I have to deal with the fact my original A&E asssesment and review and follow up review was flawed and may be the cause of me having to have follow up plastic surgery (operation on monday). Should I just get over it or what?.....wallowing my pain in wine....Smile

Ow! Ow! Right off? You poor thing.
I once cut right into my hand when trying to get the stone out of an avocado and I couldn't eat one for years. Your injury sounds muc, much worse.

I'm the least squemish person I know by a long shot but I still can't stand the scar on my face being touched 10 years on and hate discussing it with people.

Certain injuries can have a mental scar as well as a physical one and the mental scar can take a long time to heal.

Good luck with the surgery Brew

You poor thing. Try not to worry about 'flashbacks'-you're processing the trauma of the event.

Your natural childbirths were expected, so were not traumatic in the same way as this, more shocking, event.

If you are really troubled, and feel that you are still in shock, or still feeling the trauma, then you may need some help to process it. I can reccomend a process called EMDR which is fast and efficient. You can find a therapist here. One or two sessions would be enough to help you to get over this.

Finally, you are not being a wuss. You have suffered a very traumatic injury-to lose the tips of your fingers means that you have effectively lost the use of one of your senses, touch, and it will also have left you incapable of doing many ordinary things we all take for granted. Go easy on yourself and allow your mind, as well as your body, chance to heal.

By the way, my Dad did this with a lawnmower, and his fingers were just fine once they'd healed, so the prognosis should be good.

I have sliced a finger many times on my v slicer, thankfully never as bad as you. My own fault though as I tend to hold what I am slicing in my fingers rather than use the holder.
I hope your fingers are fixed by op.

Thankyou all so much for those lovely kind words....have a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye.....so emotional over this and I really appreciate you all taking the time to help me cope with this.
BodyofEeyore that must of hurt and know what you mean bout not eating avocado for years.
SummerRain I am the same also and feel this wont change, will always hate telling people cos It all comes back so vividly....people asking me justs makes me relive the whole awful experience. Thanks for explaining bout the mental scars...I have a huge one and I will probably have for a while I expect.
Amistillsexy I will look at those links after I post this and thankyou for taking the time to post a link for me. Your explanations have helped me tremendously to process the events and understand why I am so traumatised. You have given me hope too given that your Dad made a full recovery, that is good news to hear and I hope I have the same results... I have been told it will take approximately 18 months to not be able to tell it ever happened, however that was before it became apparent I needed surgery to fix them...so all up in the air at the moment.
will post and update after surgery. Thankyou all once again
