I have decided to send him a postcard every day for the rest of his life, as I cannot be there every day.

Is that ok? I plan to be there at the end.

I am so sorry to read this .My dad never made it to hospice but we did get him transfered to private hospital from the nhs hell ward he was in .And much the same open visting, contact when we wanted it by phone or letter .

I can remember seeing him and then walking away and crying because to see the change in him was hard but I do have a lot of good memories stored up and some special ones at the end .

But yes postcards everyday if thats what you want to do and i am sure your dad will appreciate it And yes waiitng for that call knowing it was immient was horriable and did not want my phone tied up with anyone else at the time .

Sending you a hug loosing anyone is hard

I'm so glad that Rindercella has posted, she has had such a recent experience with a hospice on a close and personal level and hopefully her post gives you some comfort. Hugs to you both.

bibbity, I think the postcards is a lovely idea. So sorry you are going through this. Are you close to your SM?
