DH stuck in hospital with infected knee bursitis and we are 300 miles from home!

Came up to IL for easter (300 miles from where we live) on saturday DH complains of a sore swollen knee which gets worse. We take him to the local A+E thinking they'll check him over and perhpas give him some pain relief and tell him how to self treat - anyway they admit him because they think its infected. Since then he's been on IV antibiotics as its sore, red and he's had an on/off temp. Yesterday he looked a lot better so they swapped him to oral antibiotics - today he feels worse and has a temp again. I'm staying at the IL with almost 5yr old DS1 and 6mth old DS2. DS1 will already miss school this week (2 days which I'm not bothered about as they're only doing Royal Wedding stuff) but I'm getting worried that they're not getting on top of the infection. We can stay at Il to the weekend but then they're on holiday - I really don't want to be in the situation of leaving DH in hospital and going home. Has anyone got any advice on prognosis/next treatments etc as it just feels like we're not getting anywhere. Just want to get DH fit enough to go home so we can look after him there (I'm assuming he'll be off work for a little while as his job does involve some physical effort). What do I do if he's not better by the w/e I don't want to leave him.

Could they transfer him to a hospital nearer home?

Thanks stream - we're going to see the consultant today but we're going to ask that as we really need to be back home by the w/e. The frustrating bit is that though he's legs sore they nursing wise there isn't much that he couldn't get at home (and to be honest better care - last night he wanted ice for his leg and they ran out so he had to go without).

Any luck with the consultant and getting dh moved?

Sorry not to reply earlier - been a few hectic days...DH was let out on hospital on Wed on condition he saw G P at home on Thurs (consultant arranged appoint.) with view to potential re-admission to local hospital. I drove the 300 miles back on Wed (luckily DS1 and DS2 were little angels). DH saw GP on Thurs and they decided not to re-admit but gave him another script for AB's and to review after the BH. DH is still in loads of pain and the joint is still swollen (and the ABs are having digestive side -effects ie we're getting through loo paper like its going out of fashion). He's a lot better but is now getting to the stage of getting really fed up because he can't walk very far and is in constant pain. We're going to try and see the GP on Tues just to check out that its making progress.
Thanks for posts stream.
