Hi, I suffer with very painful breasts before my period and was wondering if evening primrose oil would help. I was going to buy Tescos own brand or should I be looking at a better quality. Can anyone recommend a good brand please.Thankyou

I started taking some (from Holland and Barratt) last month, after having horribly painful periods, PMT, painful breasts, you name it.

Had my first period since starting taking it a few days ago - it was still heavy and painful BUT no breast-pain and little PMT (although that may also have been helped by the fact that I've been on holiday, not at work - so less to stress me out!).

I can't imagine that the Tesco and the H&B would be all that different tbh.

If you have a holland n barrett or similar near you, pop in and have a chat,

they are very knowledgable about this stuff. I used to work in a Health n

Diet shop years ago but have forgotten more than I ever knew, but I do

remember lots of customers using epo for the same reason, they used quite

high dosage though 2 to 3 grams(YES GRAMS) a day, you need to make sure

it is just epo and not with added vit E, apologies if you know all this already.

I thought that evening primrose oil wasn't any better than placebo for breast pain.

If you didn't fancy any of the conventional treatments (and beyond ibuprofen I'd agree with you) black cohash appears to have the best safety/efficacy profile of the alternatives.

Starflower oil has more of the active Essential fatty Acids in it than EPO,also camomile is good for female balancing;you can take the tea or they sell supplements.

Thankyou all for your replies, I have looked at the more expensive EPO and tbh a few people have told me theres no evidence to prove they work it would also take a few months to get into my system. I do drink Camomile tea. I will try Starflower :-)

Candy - I use Tescos EPO for hormones and period issues. since I've been taking it its made a massive difference even DP has noticed.

Hope you get on alright.

Hi Darcie, how many do you take a day? Some of the 500mg are 6 capsules a day. Do you know what the recommended amount is?
