NHS Walk-In Centres - what can they do

Hi, I've been ill for about 3 weeks, hacking cough, yukky phlegm - all very lovely Confused I got some more cough meds from Boots yesterday and the pharmacist told me I ought to see a GP as he thought it wasn't going to clear up on its own. Trouble is the soonest I can see my own GP is in two weeks' time. I do feel lousy, no energy, achy and generally foul but not "need to see a GP now" IYSWIM. I thought about going to the Walk-In Centre but can they prescribe antiobiotics (assuming they think it's appropriate)? I know I will be in for a wait as we took DD last year and it took ages.

Poor you, sounds horrible. Some Walk-In Centres can prescribe but for something like this I have a feeling they might refer you back to your GP :(

Are there really no appointments sooner than that at your practice? You don't have to see a particular GP there.

Walk In centres can prescribe, they'll also contact your gp with any treatments resulting from them so it's on your records. Mine even made a follow up appointment with my gp for a few days post starting antibiotics, as I was having terrible trouble in making an appointment.
I've found them very thorough and helpful.

Well we went but were told minimum 3 hour wait which for me was not a problem but with DCs (3 & 5) was totally impossible (at the least, they are healthy now but 3 hours in there and they would have caught something). so it's back to a GP appointment on 4 May - practice has several GPs so have picked first available and will just have to limp on till then.

2 weeks to see your GP? I would def got to the Clinic: i suffered like you in February and they put me straight on antibiotics . I would tell them it is urgent as this thing could get worse .I hope not!! No I am sure with antibiotics you will be fine.Do you have probs breathing?

You may find it better tomorrow (the Walk In Centre I mean) - bank holiday weekends tend to be difficult, so double bank holidays doubly so.
