When is a freckle a mole?

I'm pale and prone to freckles. I'm pretty careful in the sun and wear a high factor sun protection, stay in the shade and try to avoid burning. I'm pretty freckly on my arms and shoulders, and a few of them are bigger than the average pin prick freckle. Perhaps a few are mole sized but I'm not sure if this is because the freckles are starting to merge.

Anyway, occasionally I do wonder if I ought to get them checked out. What should I be looking for and would a doctor be irritated if I made an appointment for what could be a few freckles?

is it to do with diameter or when it is raised? I don't know. I have lots of moles though.

I had a freckle which became very very dark almost black and turned out to be a melanoma. It also developed like a nodule underneath the freckle itself. When I say dark I really mean that it was practically black and also a little bit raised and irritated. This might help you know what to look for. Just keep an eye on and if any pigment changes get them checked out.

That's really helpful, thank you. My husband thinks I am over thinking this but I burn so easily. I might see if I can book in and see the practice nurse, perhaps.
