Loratadine - what is max dose?

Usual tree pollen allergy, and it's bad this year!

I know the packet says one tablet per day, but the effects wear off after 12 hours. A friend (who is a medical person:) ) said a day may mean 12 hours, not 24, but she's not at work until Wed and can't access her website.

Anyone know, or have access to the National Formulary who can check?

Cheers. xxx

My GP has told me to only take extra antihistamine if I have a severe reaction. So I have a packet of piriton on standby but I wouldn't use it for hayfever because it's not a "one-off" thing. My GP said that using piriton as well regularly would be too much (I never thought to quiz her on the kids one though).

At my GP's suggestion I also use a nasal spray which is very effective. I take my loratadine at night (I'm on the lactose-free version and it must be a sleep inducing one) and then spray my nose in the morning. I use flixonase.
