Has anyone else been prescribed Sumatriptan for their Migraines?
If so, what kind of side effects do you get?
I'm suffering a kind of numb feeling in my face and feeling a bit wobbly and hot, not ideal when i have a 3 and 4 year old to look after. I seem to get this everytime i take these.

Hi neverontime I take sumatriptan too and also suffer side effects.

Mine are slightly different in that about 30 min after taking my head feels like it is in a vice and being squeezed...this includes my tongue too. The only way I can take it is that I have to go to bed and get as relaxed as possible before taking it, hoping that by the time the side effect kicks in I am sleeping. Thankfully my own mum lives here so I am able to lie down for about 1hr when I have taken it, after the hr I feel much better.

On days when I have no help and really need to take a tablet I put an ice pack on my head an sit down for about 30 min. The ice pack constricts the blood vessels in head and stops some of the side effects..maybe this could help you?

It is a drug which causes many side effects, I feel wobbly with it too, but then the migraine itself can make me feel like that too, along with numbness, hot flushes, etc.

You kind of have to weigh up the pros and cons of using it...do the benefits outweigh the side effects? I know with me the side effects are awful, but it does take my migraine away...so I put up with it as migraine is worse!

Hope you get help from others too..

Thanks AM36, it helps to know other people have side effects too. And i have to agree, the migraine is worse than any side effects. Will defo try the ice pack next time i need to take the pills.
Thanks again.

I take Maxlt Melt which is also a triptan. They work in about half an hour and I find when I get in the shower afterwards my skin feels slightly numb - better than 14 hours of non stop vomitting and stabbing head pains
