Mirena coil advise

Hi there - I just wondered if I could get some advise about my coil. I had my first put in nearly 6 wks ago - and since then I've had spotting and cramping pains since. I checked the threads and they are really long and I can feel a little bit of plastic too in the cervix. I had my 6wk check and the nurse said it was all fine and there was nothing to worry about. I've read on the internet that you shouldn't feel the plastic - but who do I believe, a nurse or the WWW?
Not sure if I should go back and have it checked again - or just leave it be and hope the problems I am having settle down.
Has anyone else experienced these problems?

I had spotting for a couple of months (then no periods at all), but no pain. I can fee the threads, but no plastic - that doesn't sound right. I'd call my GP and ask her. Apart from slightly greasier skin it's been great, by the way - I know it gets a bad press on here sometimes.

I agree with lizzy, you shouldn't be able to feel the plastic it must need adjusting. I have no problems with mine either.....best thing I ever did!

Thanks - I will go and see Gp next time, and not the nurse. I have heard good and bad things with the mirena coil, and I was hoping I was going to be one of the lucky ones with no problems. But I am not sure if it is agreeing with me. I'm now really spotty, still get cramps and spotting, and the hubby dose not like the threads - he says they poke him!

I have been bleeding now for eight weeks, can't feel any plastic though and don't have any pain

I had one for 2.6 years. Had my strings cut because they were long and my DP said he could feel them when we had sex, so you H is right they do 'poke' Grin I was never able to feel any plastic tho. It suited me fine for about a year and I had no periods which was great. However I started to get cramps almost every day after the year. Once I'd had it removed the cramps stopped within about 2 hours of removal. Plus I lost nearly half a stone....BONUS!!!!!

Never saw a nurse and always see my G.P for this kind of thing as she is fantastic. See your G.P next time
