Another chicken pox question

I posted yesterday about whether i needed to take ds2 (16 months old) to the doctor with what I assumed was chicken pox. Today though, I am less sure what it is. I started yesterday as an all over (not his face) rash that I assumed was just viral. By the end of the day thought the spots were very pronounced and raised and very red. They really seemed like classic chicken pox. Today though they have gone down. They are still there, but not nearly so pronounced or red. Is this normal for chicken pox? I would have thought it gets worse not better?

Doesn't sound that much like chpox. They usu start as little watery blistery things and then get red and nasty over the course of a few days. Also tend to start on abdomen not face IIRC.

I think other things can masquerade as chpox. We were on holiday once with a group of GP friends when dd1 (who'd previously had definite chpox) came out in a very chickenpoxy rash, to the extent that 3 GPs were convinced it was chpox. It clearly wasn't, as it then disappeared over the next couple of days.

Probably not worth wasting too much brainpower or energy on, unless he's clearly ill.
