Since last night ds 16 months keeps getting these weird marks. They are like small weals/welts -raised pale centre, red around the outside.
They look a bit like when sometimes you scratch or graze yourself and you get that raised mark or a bit like a nettle sting ( only the shape and size of them vary).
They keep coming up on his hands/wrists/face/feet but disappear within half an hour.
Its as if he's ultra sensitive to every little minor scratch on the skin today -not usually like this.

Hornbag - That sounds like Urtecaria. I get this due to an allergy to tomatoes, but I still eat them. Definitely sounds like your dd is having a mild allergic reaction something. Give her Piriton if its bothering her. Can you think what she may have eaten?

Urticaria Info

Has she been on medication?

hornbag · 01/11/2005 13:27

He had AB's month or so ago and had odd rashes then (but they started before ABs). GP thought maybe reaction to virus he had at the time.
No allergies to food that we've discovered and hes not had anything new in last 24-48 hrs that I can think of.
The marks keep appearing and disappearing really quickly though. Not many of them

Hornbag - But you would not discover any food allergies unless you specifically ask for a blood test to find out whats causing the urticaria. It definitely sounds like Urticaria. My GP was reluctant to test for what was causing mine as he said "Its like looking for a needle in a haystack". I just developed the allergy at the age of 17 and its never gone away.
I waited 9 months for the test!

Thanks FA-do they test children any quicker or is it a long wait for all?
Also can you be allergic to raw tomatoes but ok with cooked ones cos he will not touch raw ones and I did try him with them again yeswterday? He eats cooked ones in sauces ok but picks up and throws raw ones in disgust if I put them on his plate!

Hornbag - I don't think whether he likes the food or not makes a difference to whether he's allergic to them. I eat ALOT of tomatoes and I lurv them. Nobody really knows why some people are prone to developing allergies. I am though. And asthma/excema runs in the family too.

The test might be quicker now, I was tested 10yrs ago.

HMo2- not been in garden or anywhere different. Its like I said about being ultra sensitive to scratches from something but can't identify what though.(confused emoticon)

Hornbag - I come up in hives if I so much as rub my skin! Its contact dermititus and the hives it causes are called Urticaria! Listen to me woman.... I knoowwww. Its not dangerous, but might make her uncomfortable sometimes. I would say that its some internally thats she's allergic to rather than something that is touching her skin.

Just asked cos friends dd wouldn't touch bread or pasta without a battle and now, at age 5yrs, shes been diagnosed coeliac. I'm a believer that sometimes the body tries to tell you things ie in likes/dislikes even when young (but sometimes its sheer bloodymindedness in the child!!!!!
