Anyone out there had THR (hip replacement)?

just seeking advice as had the rather shocking diagnosis of a hip replacement in the next few months, I'm 37 with a 14 month old.
I'm trying to choose between two surgeons offering different prothesis. Short stem v long stem.
Interested in anyone's experience.

I have had hip ops but not a replacement. However, my friend had her femoral head capped with (I think) metal instead of actually replacing it. She wanted this as is very short and couldn't afford to loose an more height!

She was a new women and told me if ever mine give up to try that as a lot less invasive than a THR. Has anything like that been discussed? (She had hers done on Oxford)
