Long term UTI

Three years ago I got my first UTI and went on anti-biotics. It failed to clear up and too 2 years of having every test going and different anti-biotics to finally clear up.

The consultants could offer no explanation of why it took so long to clear.

I was extremely depressed and they were the worst two years of my lift.

A year later it's back.

I just can't go through having this for another couple of years.

I never get the stinging but a horrible heavy dragging feeling all the time and the bladder is very swollen. Also feel the bladder is full all the time.

Test show I have an infection but come back with various strains of infections each time I have a test.

I know it's a long shot but could anyone offer any advice?

I have this and am so bloody depressed. Have had it since November. Antibiotocs clear it up but a couple of weeks later its back.

A friend of mine had this and had antibiotics for 6 months, a low dose - that was 5 years ago and she hasn't had one since. So I'm going to ask the GP about this.

I have got endometriosis and have asked the gynacologist if I got have endo on my bladder as I read that this could cause the symptoms. However he doesn't do cystoscopys to look at bladders as well so I'm going to see if he'll refer me to a urologist. But am happy to try 6 months of antibiotics first.

I sympathise as its so awful. I'm in pain all the time when its here which is about 50% of the time. Can't sleep as by mind is constantly telling me to get up and have a wee.

Sorry to hear you are going through it too though it's good to hear I'm not alone.

I had a low dose course of anti-biotics for 18 months which finally cleared it.

Have had a cystoscopy and scan and all is apparantly normal.

Such a horrible feeling isn't it.

I get this. I find that drinking loads and avoiding caffeine helps. Also, weirdly, mind over matter. I deliberately ignore the symptoms and try and focus on other things. Nine times out of ten, it resolves within a couple of days on its own. I am not medically trained, but I think I have an irritable bladder. This could be bollocks, but it feels right iyswim.
