delaying/stopping periods for a holiday?

Am not currently using any birth control(other than condoms) but

wondering if I start using mini pill again today, will it delay or stop my period

next week(due on monday). Can't get to doctor's for anything else but have

lots of cerazette (sp?) left over. Sorry for stupidness of question, DCs are

so looking forward to going swimming on holiday.

I think that the mini pill won't work, as so many people seem to have either very irregular periods when taking it, and some have "spotting" as well. Could you try tampons (have another try if not suited you before?) - sorry if that is not a possibility for whatever reason.

pithtaker · 04/04/2011 22:15

thanks, tampons won't work as I have very heavy periods, just read about

something you can take to stop periods before a holiday (can't remember

the name but is by prescription only) and just wondered if these pills would

have the same effect. Would this be a daft reason to phone GP or NHS

Direct?

You might be able to do a bit of a search on here, or google it before ringing GP/NHS Direct? Sometimes old threads are useful sources of information. (apologies if you have done that already)
Or bump this thread a bit, I'm sure there are others far more knowledgable than me. :)

Yes I am sure there is a pill, but I am fairly sure it's a bit different to the mini pill (but am happy to be corrected if I am wrong) :)

You need to ask your Gp or FPC for norethisterone. You take it just before you go on holiday, the duration of your holiday then stop it when you get back and you will have a bleed then.

Cerazette won't have the same effect.

Goober · 04/04/2011 22:20

I am not on pill.
A few years ago I took this other pill for the postponing of unwanted menstruals.
Never again.
I still had all the cramps of a period. Mood was ridiculously murderous. And really bloaty.

BrigitBigKnickers · 04/04/2011 22:37

Oh God yes- ask for norethisterone- take it three days before period is due and keep it up till after your holiday. Three days after the tablets stop your period will start.- it's a total life saver! But be prepared for a heavier period the next month.

thejoanwilder · 05/04/2011 01:28

I agree with goober. I took Norithisterone- was prescribed, but didn't actually have to see Dr.- nurse consultation over the phone) as I was due on over my wedding.
Was vile towards DH (generally stressed, but still), felt like crap and still spotted slightly anyway. Bah.

pithtaker · 05/04/2011 08:28

thanks for replies, will phone surgery to see if I can get norethisterone

without seeing gp.( am actually quite tempted to just say sod it and let DH

take them swimming whilst I lounge at the edge of the pool sipping cocktails

Grin)
