Hi Alibubbles - sorry to bother you.
I remembered from ages ago that you swapped from seroxat to prozac to come off seroxat. I have been trying to come off for 2 years(!) - got over the pnd just cant get over the medication. I think you were quite positive about this method at the time but just wondered if you would still recommend it. Also can you remember what dose of seroxat you were on when you did the swap and did you just go onto the same dose of prozac? Sorry for all the questions - any help gratefully received!!

Hi kizzie,

I was on Seroxat for 2 and a half years, I went from 20mg to 30mg for about 6 months and then back to 20mg when I decided I wanted to stop taking it. 30mg to 20mg was n't too bad. I then cut a 30 in half so it was 15 and took that for about a couple of weeks, anytime that I felt rough I would take a 20 again. I then started to cut 20's in half and took for about another 4 weeks, I couldn't seem to get past 10mg without feeling really bad withdrawal symptoms, headache, nausea, dizziness, losing it occasionally.

This was when i asked my GP if I could have Prozac and told him I'd read about using one to come off the other, he agreed it could work and so I started to take 20mg of Prozac everyday for about a month, as well as the Seroxat (10mg). I then started to reduce Seroxat to every other day for about two weeks, still taking Prozac every day.

After another month I stopped Seroxat altogether, 4 weeks later I stopped Prozac aand did not have any reactions at all.

Do talk to your GP first before doing it, it did work for me, it was a matter of trial and error with reducing the Seroxat

It must be two years since I have taken anything and feel relatively fine. I wouldn't hesitate to go back onto Prozac if I felt the big black dog on my shoulder again, but would not take Seroxat again, ever. However, a friend took it for only six months and had no problems, so it affects people differently.

Good luck, it will take time, I think it took about 6 months altogether. Email me through Contact another talker if you want support privately.

Thankyou sooo much for replying so quickly.
I didnt realise that youd carried on taking the 10mgs of seroxat at same time so that was really useful to know.
I've got down to 15mgs this time but not feeling great and each withdrawal is getting harder so I think it really is time to try something else.
I'm going to try and see my doctor later this week to talk through with her.
Thanks again Alibubbles - really appreciated!
