Can't really help as, though I have rosacea, I basically ignore it: sorry if yours is severe and painful. Can your GP not refer you?

my son had it,and distilled witch hazel, really helped with the itch, and seemed to help calm it down, but as far as specialists go,i can,t help, hope you find help.

it has been dormant for so long and just flared up and is driving me mad - i am spotty like a 15 year old and it's really itching. i saw a specialist year ago but suppose i could start with the gp this time, i really need something quick!

Sorry to hear. I suffer too. Mine is bright red with a burning sensation (lovely).

Found NHS too slow. So went to Maria Roest at Sameday Doctor in Harley St (works there on a Thursday - £100 for a consultation). Also works a the Lister 1 day a week.

Lovely lady and very knowledgable without being too "consultanty".

Best thing she recommended was something called Finacea (stuff you apply to face). Bit stingy for a few days immediately after application. But then it took most of the redness and all the burning out of my poor face.

You could try that in conjunction with an oral antibiotic.

Don't bother with metrogel/cream. Its rubbish - made mine worse.

Or see what she recommends for you.

Hi skandi1

many thanks for your post, it really helped me. i also managed to see a consultant, and she has prescribed the same thing Finacea. it took a while to get the appointment, and the cream is currently on order at boots, but just wanted to say thanks for your help and advice.

I've got Rosacea - really itchy and red - started 4 years ago but I have always blushed easily which is a classic sign. I sometimes go on a course of weak antibiotics for 3 months at a time but I know some things do set it off such as spicy food, red wine and stress. Have a look at a website www.pureandgentle.com loads of information about Roscea. Good luck.
