Tompirimate - Anyone got any help with the side effects?

Is anyone else on this wonderful yet evil drug? It has helped me enourmously and I am so thankful of the clinical effect, but am struggling so much with the side effects. The worst one struggling to eat (coupled with nausea and complete disinterest in food).

Has anyone else got any helpful stories?

Glad to hear it is working for you.

I used to take for epilepsy but the side-effects were so bad I couldn't get up to a theraputic dose. It is the worst drug I have ever taken. I did find it helped to increase dosage slowly (but didn't help enough in my case).

Guess that isn't a helpful story, but at least it will bump your post up

I am now on carbamazepine which is a godsend.

Sorry, another one here that couldn't cope with the side effects. I was on it for severe migraine, as part of a uk drug trial and even on the lowest dose suffered severe parasthesia and dizziness, extremely impaired cognitive function, speech problems and lost a huge amount of weight - apparently the latter is unusual on a very low dose.

I was on it for six months and thankfully it did seem to deal with the migraines (I now only have them very rarely compared to having them almost constantly and lasting days at a time) so it was worth it for me, but there's no way I could have stayed on it any longer or increased the dosage.

Sorry, no useful advice for you again, but at least your thread will get bumped again.

I took Topiramate briefly for my neuro. problem. I'm sorry to say that I had similar issues to fallingandlaughing - even on the start dose I felt as though I was being boiled alive, I was so hot but couldn't sweat at all. I was really thirsty and everything tasted like pure salt too. I was disorientated, dizzy, and I seemed to have an increase in many of my neuro symptoms.

It is good to hear that someone is having good results with it, though. I felt as though my neurologist was throwing allsorts of strange drugs at me in the hope that something would help, and he could then discharge me... I'd previously been on another type of medication that made me gain weight very quickly and the neuro. told me that Topiramate would cure all of my ills AND I would lose weight! I wish it had worked for me.
