Anyone know anything about cervical stenosis?

My sister has been left with this after complications from treatment for pre cancerous cells (infection caused massive bleeding and what they did to stem the bleed has caused severe scar tissue)
Her consultant is unable to even get enough cells for follow up smear test so has decided to do it under general anaesthetic and try to dilate the cervix at the same time.
Anyone got any knowledge of this? Particularly, what happens if he can't do this? Or what happens next time she needs a follow up smear test?

I'm not sure but I am bumping this for you as I had to have pre cancerous cells removed under GA and I know what a rollercoaster it can be.

Luckily I was able to have my follow up smear at the GP's, which was normal, so it must not be nice to her to be in this position.

Perhaps it would be better to go for the GA as then he can spend some time trying to collect the cells, which would otherwise be quite painful/uncomfortable if she was aware?

Thanks for your reply - yes, her last experience was a fully awake 40 minute attempt to get an adequate smear.... I'm just not sure what happens after this time under GA - presumably they will not do that every six months, which is how often they wanted to check as the cells were described as very aggressive. I just feel so sorry for her, it was enough of a scare without all the ensuing complications!

Yes, I too have to have them every 6 months as the cells were moderate and severe Sad.

I sympathise with her as it is not nice at all - the discomfort of the procedures and the worry.

Perhaps she should just take things one step at a time, so get this one done under GA, see what the outcome is, and then worry about the next one at a later date?
