Facial mole really annoying me

I have a mole on my cheek, it's got bigger over time and sticks out a bit, also it itches sometimes.

Do people think it's worth talking to my GP about it?

I can't even see it in old photos, so am not sure when it appeared.

Why not.

They tell you to have changes in moles checked although I never bother so I should take my own advice.

I don't think your GP will mind you asking about it.

Definitely. My sister had one on her nose removed at the GP surgery.

i think they do get bigger over time (slowly ) dont they ? and im sure i was told that new ones can appear at any time up to the age of 40 i am very moley and freckles on face , i get panicky sometimes , i go every 5/6 months to mole clinic now (for my own peace of mind )

if you are really worried worth a check up ,just put mind at rest .

oh and i to look at old photos and cant see half what i have now ...takes time to change pigment , hormones , and age of course .

hope that helps a little

Choclab what do they do at the Mole Clinic? how do they check them? my sister said something about shining a special light on the moles?

choclab · 26/03/2011 20:37

i have top to toe one which , they magnify each of my moles individually and these are logged on computer and analysed by colour shape and size , they then score each mole individually this at the end gives an overall picture of my moles and risk of SC , this is kept on file for each visit for comparison , i then see a dermatologist who comes in and looks at me and my moles and sees the report , and tells me how things are , askes me any questions and if not off i go for another 6 months .
i go because i do worry and i feel better getting regular checks , as i hope if anything was to change can be sorted ASAP ..thats my theory ...

hope that helps

yes very similar - i prob have there equivalent mole mapping , i used to go to supperdrug in some stores they have a side clinic just for moles , and can scan individual ones , if your worried about just the one .then if she thinks is a concern then the image in forwarded to a dermatologist for him to examine .

I did this for a while , till our supper drug closed , so i now go to a private clinic and have this mole scanning done as i said every 6 months , going in 2 weeks actually ..yikes !!! i still worry ....

i do this as i have many moles and sun burnt as a child , so i personally like to get checked ...
