Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - Can this cause a lump around the elbow area and weird upper arm muscle pain?

I have had various issues with my left hand since I was a teenager, I have camptodactyly (which is basically a deformed pinky finger joint, but it is now effecting the 2 fingers next to it and they are bending in) I also have carpal tunnel syndrome. I have also had cysty type things grow in the palm of my left hand up near my fingers that i have had surgery to remove.

Anyway about 5 weeks ago I had a hospital appointment as my hand was getting worse, pain, tingling, losing grip and numbness, so i am on the waiting list for a carpal tunnel operation (should be another 4 weeks or so) I was told at the appointment that my thumb muscle was basically wasting away, so the priority would be to save that.

So, over the past week or so, I have noticed a sore tender lump at my elbow (on the inside of the bend, if you know what i mean) that seems to vary in size, it also feels like the muscle in my arm above the lump on the inside feels a bit like it is tense even when i am relaxed, not really sure how to describe it, but this has also happened at the same time as i have started experiencing really bad pain in my thumb.

So i was wondering if anyone in the know about carpal tunnel could advise whether or not the elbow/muscle thing could be related and if everything should hopefully calm down after the op, or whether it is an unrelated thing, and if a trip to the docs is in order?

Thanks!

No, the carpal tunnel shouldn't cause the elbow stuff. Could be you have developed a cyst there though.

Not sure, but it could be Bursiti?. That hopsitalised my DH a few years ago. Is it hot? If you start feeling unwell get yourself to a GP or A&E PDQ. DH ended up on IV antibiotics for 5 days because it had got so bad.

Alternatively, I went to the GP with what I thought was Carpal Tunnel a few weeks ago, but it turned out, when the drugs were doing nothing, that I had trapped nerves in my neck and it got so bad that I couldn't use my arm without lying down for half an hour afterwards. It doesn't sound like this, but it's worth getting properly checked out with Nerve Conduction Studies etc.

Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry meant Bursitis - not sure where the last 's' went, sorry.

Thanks for your replies, haven't been on since Friday, but i did end up going to the GP just to get it checked. He is convinced that it is to do with the carpal Tunnel and said that everything is just getting so bad, that can happen and gave me anti-inflammatories.

Hopefully my op date will come through soon, getting fed up of it now!

My dh has bursitis, it comes and goes, he was offered steroid injections into the elbow but has so far refused. He gets it due to repetitive strain, so it could be linked to your hand problems maybe ??
