Yes MAS when on chemo you're not supposed to eat from salad bars....that procession of people and their germs....really doesn't bear thinking about, chemo or no, but I love'em anyway! Am a bit of a saladoholic and not to have to do all the fiddly washing and chopping....bliss! DH and I ended up eating in a Harvester on the day I got my bad results after the first op. Were impressed with our local one and the Early Bird deal. Loved seeing all the lovely old ladies all dressed up and out for lunch too Smile

LittleGreenFr0g · 17/04/2011 22:18

Good luck for tomorrow Pink :)

LJB - these diet restrictions are a pain, arn't they? Mine are made worse being a veggie, so am restricted from the start! I went to a lovely pizza place the other week and ordered a gorgeous sounding goats cheese pizza, only to realise a few minutes later that I couldn't have it. Had to change my order :(

I have found myself being very thirsty this weekend - is this normal? I have been drinking loads of water to rehydrate myself. Apart from that, restless leg didn't reappear (phew) and have just been feeling very tired.

LimeJellyforBrains · 17/04/2011 22:34

Oh goats cheese LGF, drool.....what a shame! Think Smee is veggie too. It must be hard to get the protein in when you're trying to avoid dodgy tums and/or constipation after chemo! (Thinking lentils vs cheese).

Don't know about the thirst thing - I have been forcing myself to drink so much water on chemo/drug days I haven't had the chance to get thirsty!

LimeJellyforBrains · 17/04/2011 22:37

But I do remember reading once that, oz for oz, mushrooms have more protein that steak. Have no idea if that is true, but being a mushroom lover, I like to believe it Smile

pinkstarlight · 18/04/2011 21:40

had my second chemo today was bit of a long drawn out process as i was sick during the chemo, talk about disrupt a quiet room lol.luckily was only sick once good job really as they was threatening to call the doctor but then they gave me some stronger sickness med and then wait for it to work but then they had to do the chemo very slowly which took some time.

actually not feeling to bad tonight considering just slightly hungover and i have managed to eat some dinner and keep it down and a touch of acid but they have given me something much stronger for that.

LimeJellyforBrains · 18/04/2011 22:03

Oh pink I am sorry to hear you were actually sick during the chemo. How horrible for you. And what a pain it made it take such a long time too. Good they did slow it down tho as that is supposed to help. Glad they have given you some better meds for the sickness and for the acid as well. Have they given you the stronger anti-sickness meds for home too?

I collected my Mum from the Harvester safely, and as you can see, I survived the salad bar too! Only when I got home did I remember I probably shouldn't have gone for the runny fried egg option on the gammon too. Oh well, too late now! Smile Hard to believe that in two days' time I'll be back to feeling yuck again.

Hope Figgy and LGF are not feeling too bad today. Hope the injections are doing the trick for you Figgy and boosting those white cells Smile

EasterChickAndRabbitKurri · 18/04/2011 22:18

Poor you Pink - how horrible for you Sad I'm glad you've managed to keep a bit of food down though, and hopefully the stronger drugs will be successful. I know you feel rough at the moment - but one more out the way yes?

LJ - glad you enjoyed the salad bar, good luck for your chemo this week - how is your mum coping, if you don't mind me asking? (I remember you were anxious about telling her you were ill).

I went to yoga this morning it was lovely and relaxing Smile and this afternoon I dug over the vegetable patch ready to get my veggies in. It is very humid here - I am hot flushing like there's no tomorrow Grin

LimeJellyforBrains · 18/04/2011 22:50

Hi Kurri, glad you had a lovely day - yoga and gardening. Do you have any veg plants ready to go in? Am a bit of a newbie to gardening. Only have tiny sproutlings yet (broccoli, sweetcorn, sweet peas and hollyhocks - the courgettes still not showing) so am putting off the digging in case it just gets full of weeds again before the plants are ready to set out. Is it better to dig now? This year my garden (and others I know) is simply full of field forget-me-nots. They keep coming up as fast as I can pull them out. Don't remember any last year, this year they are everywhere, in every nook, cranny and pot. Also celandine, luckily only in one small bed.

My mum still has no idea about my cancer or chemo. She seems a bit better emotionally this time - not so trembly or tearful - but her back is particularly bad at the moment. She has not been cooking/eating much by herself so am hoping to feed her up a bit while she is here.

EasterChickAndRabbitKurri · 18/04/2011 23:23

Oh I'm sorry LJ I didn't realise your mum didn't know (I do remember you saying it would be very difficult to tell her) - sorry for the tactless question. I'm glad she's a little better in herself emotionally, but bad backs are horrible - hope that improves for her.

I'm going to plant some carrot/radish and parsnip seeds. I've got seedlings of courgettes, beans and sweetcorn but I'm going to wait until I'm sure the frosts are finished before I plant them out (same with my flowers). My courgettes took a while to appear, and didn't all germinate at once - so don't give up, they'll suddenly break through Smile We also have as many weeds as plants - it's never ending, and DH is a lazy so and so prefers other things to weeding, so it's my job!

I wouldn't worry about digging until you are ready to plant out - I'm only doing it because I have stuff to plant directly from seed. (Actually I think when on chemo, your job is to give instructions whilst others dig Grin)

Hope everyone else is fine Smile

LimeJellyforBrains · 18/04/2011 23:35

Not tactless at all Kurri - and I don't expect everyone to remember every detail of what I ramble on about! Smile

Beans! I knew there was something I had completely forgotten! Definitely want some beans.... Thanks for the encouragement re the courgettes. I have only planted four seeds so am hoping for at least one/two plants which should be enough for us.

Am doing the 'Taking Aged Mother to the Garden Centre' trip tomorrow so shall pick up some bean seeds or plants. Also an exercise ball for the hamster. Have seen a birdbath I like the look of on their website too. Could turn out to be almost as good as a trip to Ikea in terms of coming home with an array of satisfying, not-too-expensive bits and pieces! Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/04/2011 07:18

garden centres can be like Ikea ! dh always comes back with more than he went for. He planted his seeds on Sunday- he is using ones harvested from last year (shoo fly plants/malvia) and packet ones- all sitting steaming under their cloches ! I know nothing about gardening but appreciate all the hard work. Am very excited that the little quince tree has beautiful lush leaves and flowers !
So sorry to hear that you were sick during chemo pink- really hope you are doing ok. Good luck for your chemo this week LJ - you are doing brilliantly and hope you can feed her up- bad backs are horrid. MIL is really suffering which means she wont want to go out when we're seeiing her this w/end.
Am taking ds for haior cut today, then will find him some trousers that fit -his legs are growing fast !

I posted a thing about Hollister on Friday (the clothes shop that teens seem obsessed with- not ds,but I thought he'd like a trendy top or two) It's as dark as a cave in the shops and the things are ludicrously expensive - then had the bright idea of asking my cousin in California (for that is where they come from) to buy a couple there-miles cheaper-as she is coming over in May) Am hoping the street cred afforded by this might boost his confidence !
Breast clinic tomorrow.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/04/2011 07:32

btw- got my new prescription for tamoxifen yesterday- didn't ask which brand this time and got the APS rather than wockhardt - bcn has assured me they're all the same,so have gone for it- i usually get in a pickle about having the Wockhardt all the time,so we'll see !

OP posts:
LimeJellyforBrains · 19/04/2011 09:05

I think getting trendy clothes direct from the US will give your DS a load of street cred MAS Smile

I used to get several different brands of Citalopram when I was on it. I did worry about it too, and had one preferred brand (the one I started on). But generally I found no real difference and accepted them, apart from one brand which I was convinced were different - possibly stronger or weaker - made me feel different - and if given them I would always ask for them to be exchanged. So well done for having a go and good luck. But if you're not happy, don't feel bad about getting them changed - you're not alone Smile

Mum cannot walk much when her back is bad (like now). I am hoping the garden centre might lend out wheelchairs and that she'll consent to sitting in one. Will say the boys are dying to push her! She has osteoporosis and her spine is crumbling Sad. I will have to have a bone scan at some point as all the women on mum's side have it. Think one of my uncles has it too. Have discussed it a bit with my Onc - may have to be careful about some of my drugs. But basically it's tricky as my bones need the oestrogen but my cancer thrives on it.

EasterChickAndRabbitKurri · 19/04/2011 10:54

I have to really restrain myself in garden centres, otherwise we would be bankrupt Grin Ours has a pet section too and they've now started selling chickens and all their accoutrements. I would love to have chickens - DH not so keen Grin

I hope you and your mum have a nice day LJ, and the boys get their chance to push a wheelchair (as long as they don't run to build up speed and then jump on the back to cruise!)

Sorry to hear about your mum's osteoporosis, my aunt has that and I know it is very painful Sad I think you are right about the drugs, one of them you have to have bone scans because it affects bone density (arimidex possibly).

MAS - I think getting clothes from US will carry loads of street cred Smile They do start shooting up when they are teenagers don't they? Does he keep outgrowing shoes too? - it all gets very expensive (plus if he's anything like my DS was he'll start eating twice as much!)

I hope you get on alright with the different brand of tamox., I have wockhart too but did get a different one once - it was OK (but like you I prefer to stick to the same brand), but yes definitely get it changed if you are not happy.

We're going to see 'My Fair Lady' on thursday - DD has to write review of a musical production (amateur or professional) and this was the only one anywhere near here. Its actually 40 miles away! - and is by an operatic society - I'm quite looking forward to it. DH has the afternoon off anyway so we might make a day of it, go early and have tea out, then see the show.

I hope everyone is feeling OK today, and the sickness is under control Pink.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/04/2011 11:29

am sure the new tamoxifen will be fine- am just scared of anything different !
Ds has almost finished the jar of lingonberry jam I bought at Ikea- on his own- I had a tiny scraping on my toast on Saturday - he eats like a horse !

Poor mum LJ - am sure garden centre will loan wheelchairs...my MIL has osteoporosis and mum too- MIL is suffering very badly with her back at the moment and I suspect her spine is crumbling. We were going to take her out to lunch when we stay at Easter, but am sure she won't feel up to it Sad
Hope the trip to My Fair Lady is jolly KK ! When ds does his drama GCSE I think there'll be a bit of going to plays and writing about them !
Here is my dad's Easter card- he is so clever and I love it- it's called Faberge chick here

EasterChickAndRabbitKurri · 19/04/2011 11:53

That's is lovely MAS, he is very clever - what a talented family you are Smile.

Sorry to hear about your MIL, I hope you are able to go out with her at easter.

I am trying to motivate myself into doing some housework - but I keep finding other less dull things to do, and then having a coffee break. Grin

Weirdly I feel guilty if I go outside and garden (even thought the garden needs to be done) because I enjoy it. I feel I ought to be doing housework, which I hate. Confused

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/04/2011 17:12

ah yes, that's always the way-doing nice things rather than dull stuff always makes me feel guilty Smile
Ds has nice sho rt haircut and he just about tolerated being trawled around the shops -I offered him lunch out but he preferred to get a duck wrap from M&S and a doughnut -then made him try on some jeans in the Gap- fortunately they fit -lots of scowling.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2011 11:00

breast clinic- saw nice registrar from last time, plus the senior BCN who is lovely - examination was fine but no results yet from mammogram. They asked whether the breast was smaller or larger than before-I said I never look in the mirror at them so wouldn't know - the scars are nice and fading though.
Dh is off today now for Easter so is kindly doing the Sainsbury's shop. Hope everyone is ok today xxx

Hi to everyone else as well! I am back (and sunburnt) from Bournemouth. it was fab, though I think i was in the wrong part for ogling boys Sad

pinkstarlight · 20/04/2011 17:12

hi all still feeling bit grotty from having my second chemo on monday but thankfully the sickness med is now working and so are the new acid tablets i have been given.im very tired this time round and food tastes of cardboard no taste at all does anyone know if my taste will return its making eating very hard work.

pinkstarlight · 20/04/2011 17:14

welcome back spongebob glad to hear you had a good time.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/04/2011 17:28

hey spongecake- are you all carveried out ?

OP posts:
SpongeBobSparePants · 20/04/2011 17:30

Hiya pink

Sorry you aren't feeling too good. I am not sure about the taste thing, mine didn't go, fortunately, but i think it may be something you are stuck with for the time being, although it may return a bit between cycles. It must suck the joy out of eating and drinking Sad
