lilruthie: So sorry for your diagnosis, but welcome to our thread! The initial couple of weeks, the shock, sadness and anger, when you're waiting for things to start, are the worst. You WILL feel better! Sorry for the situation with your mum too - it will be hard, but at least having gone through it herself, hopefully she now knows you can come through as she has. xx

Cakesandale · 08/04/2011 12:00

Grin pink!

LJ, sorry you are going through the mill. The effects are cumulative, but some cycles are worse than others. Maybe you need to rest more? I should think bagged salad would be perfectly safe, but it may be that you need more starch with it, I was told that chemo makes you make a lot of stomach acid .

The amitryptiline is what i have been prescribed too, but I have decided not to take it, at least for now. Your poor dh, his back problems sound much worse than mine. Hope he is set for a pain-free future.

We are planning lots of gardening this week too - I am more of a planter than a heavy jobs merchant but dh seems more than usually keen to take part this weekend. So I am going to get him to dig out virtually everything before his enthusiasm wanes, then we can top up the topsoil and get it looking nice. It is currently a real pit. Also Mum is due over tomorrow - she may be tiny and 80 years old, but she is a dab hand at cleaning a patio

lastly, if anyone is at a loose end late on a Thursday night I can thoroughly recommend Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience to pass the time. I watched it last night while waiting up for DH, and nearly fell off the sofa laughing - let's face it, we can all do with bit of a laugh...

LimeJellyforBrains · 08/04/2011 12:05

Cakes: Grin or Shock? at your patio-cleaning mum! Is it because she's tiny therefore closer to the ground she's so good at it?

LimeJellyforBrains · 08/04/2011 12:08

Oops pressed post too quick. Have been a bit disappointed in my usual cast-iron stomach which I was relying on to see me through! Also used to self-treating with live/bio yoghurts when suffering a dodgy tum eg when on hols, usually works a treat, now not allowed, very frustrating!

Cakesandale · 08/04/2011 12:49

LJ Grin Apparently she 'likes to be useful'. Not a trait I have inherited, sadly.
She's quite magnificent at tidying up a garden, I can be sweeping away ineffectually for ages, and then she just comes along and BLAMMO! done!

I too relied on my cast iron stomach, but was luckier than you seem to be, and never sick, only nauseous all the time. I know I have said this before, but my absolute saviour when I felt particularly nauseous was ginger beer. The really fizzy, kids' pop type stuff. Strange, but true. A can (or two) a day kept the sick bag at bay.

Just trying to work up a bit of energy for a swim.

KurriKurri · 08/04/2011 13:58

Nice to see you back LJ - but sorry you've had a dodgy tum - not fun. I second ginger beer though. (Thank you very much for your kind comments about the poster btw. Smile)

Grrr to missing your appointment Cakes - that is annoying (and Pink awful for you to have had to wait so long for your clinic appointment). I hope you get a new app. quickly Cakes, and the injections are a success.

MAS - your DS always sounds so lovely - I'm sure he will find his way in the world, - early teens is such an awkward age.

Go easy on the painting Pink - but enjoy the sunshine, it is such a beautiful day today. Smile

I went to keep fit this morning, usual teacher was away and her substitute was a dance teacher, - so it was a very dancy keep fit, - really good fun - we got to waft chiffon scarves around and run about on tiptoe Grin
And my shoulder just about stood up to it, just the odd twinge.

Apparently there is a zumba class starting the hour before I do yoga, - so I might give that ago - has anyone tried it - is it incredibly energetic?

Lots of love to all Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/04/2011 14:04

what is zumba KK?? Thanks for kind words about ds- he is a dear but I can't help fretting about him.
Hi LJ - sorry to hear about tummy though -hope it feels more settled soon
Grin @ Cakes's mum cleaning the patio !
Just been over to mum's as she couldn't make her stairlift work- the switch had been switched off -all ok now, though i had visions of trying to carry her upstairs !

pinkstarlight · 08/04/2011 14:06

ljb..i feel your pain i was like that for the first 8/9 days with the acid, sicknes and dodgy tummy i ended up having to change my med i was even struggling to drink.im now on day 12 and feel great much better so much so i have been gardening and painting fences.i hope you recover quickly.

KurriKurri · 08/04/2011 14:45

MAS - as far as I can gather, Zumba is sort of exercise/dance to international music - so lots of different beats and rhythms - latin american, bollywood, greek etc. , it sounds fun but not sure if I can hack the pace Grin

Also Grin@ Cakes tiny mum cleaning the patio.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/04/2011 16:46

sounds great - but exhausting KK !

smee · 08/04/2011 20:17

Can't keep up with you lot. I've been in the park with DS and other parents/ kids from the school to celebrate end of term. Feel sun kissed and in need of chilled beer, but we have none. Sad

Have to say KK, you're effortlessly trendy and you don't even know it. Zumba's incredibly cool.

Will try and read and catch up more tomorrow. Hello to lilruthie though. Sorry you're here, but the others are right, we've all been through some version of where you're at. I had a mastectomy about a year ago, so ask any questions you want. Are you having nodal clearance too?

Hope all those on treatment are on the up. LJ, you'll be feeling better soon am sure. Pink did you get any further than taking the lid off? Grin

SR, what's the Polish man up to? We need details..

Cakes, when your mum's finished send her over here. I have no patio, but can find plenty of jobs for a diligent octogenarian. Grin

KurriKurri · 08/04/2011 20:36

Hi Smee - playing in the sun at the park sounds really nice Smile But you have made me want a nice cool beer now (I'll have to make do with a weightwatchers yogurt) Grin

[grin]@effortlessly trendy - my DD would beg to differ I think!

lilruthie - I somehow managed to completely miss your post, - I'm so sorry, it looked as if I was rudely ignoring you Blush

I'm sorry to hear about your DX, you're very welcome to the thread of course, and I hope we can provide a bit of info., tips and support.

I'm sorry you're feeling crap at the moment Sad - I think we can all empathise with the many emotions you go through just after DX. I felt just the same way as you - guilt about not wanting to worry my mum. But I can guarantee you mum won't want you thinking that way, she'll just want to help and support you while you get better.

Take care x

SparkleRainbow · 09/04/2011 08:10

Lilruthie - I am sorry to hear that you are having such a horrid time at the moment. Please ask questions and tell us how you are feeling, talk about it if it helps. The ladies on here are wonderful. I haven't actually had bc in the end, I had to have the mass removed earlier this year, but I do understand how scary it all is, and the otehrs on here have either have all had bc and are either recovered, recovering or undergoing treatment, so you are not alone.

Smee Grin park, what a lovely thing to do.

Trendy and cool Kurri Grin

OK I am confused about SR's polish man, vodka shots etc......mysterious house visitors. I have looked for the post, but am too inept to find it Blush SR are you adopting the ex eastern block?

pink - take it easy too, but you did make me grin at sitting down after 45 mins of attempting to get the lid off the paint can! Grin The sheer frustration alone would make me have to have a Brew and compose myself! How does the fence look?

and while I am on improving gardens......Grin at cakes tiny mum cleaning patios like a whirlwind. Dh is currently constructing our patio, tis a labour of love and engineering wizardry. It will be ready sometime after May half term........Hmm No it will really, and dh is fab at this stuff.

Figgyroll · 09/04/2011 09:58

Morning all -another beautiful morning Grin

Welcome to lilruthie - so sorry for your diagnosis and I know how scared you must be feeling but it really does help to post here to ask questions, offload - these ladies have all been amazing.

Zumba sounds interesting - we've got a new class started in our village. It's certainly catching on but, speaking as someone with two left feet and no co-ordination at all, it's not something I'm tempted to have a go at.

Sorry to hear you've had horrible indigestion, LJ. I've had it too, something I've never suffered from before so can only assume it's a side effect. I've been eating quite bland food which has certainly helped but am going to a friend's tonight for a takeaway curry and just know I'll succumb to some spicy things. Oh well, I'll pay for it during the night so will have the Gaviscon at the ready.

It's interesting about not having the live/bio yoghurts because, when I asked my bc nurse about any foods to avoid during chemo, they were the only thing she mentioned but couldn't explain why.

It would seem we're all very keen gardeners. I intend getting out there later today and tidying up my pots - the birds have eaten all my primroses. Shock I feel a spending splurge coming on.

I hope everyone is well and has a lovely Saturday. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/04/2011 12:50

I suppose live yogs might just contain bugs that would upset your inner flora, possibly ? even though they're meant to be good for you .
Beautifully sunny here- washing on the line- I can see mum sitting reading in the garden...

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 09/04/2011 13:15

Lovely that your mum is out enjoying the sunshine MAS. I've weeded our (small) patio - we've got a wooden seat there ad I thought it might be nice if DD wants to sit out in the garden and study.

I'm trying to tidy the house a bit then will bake a cake - then I might go out and have a read Smile. DH is on his way to Sheffield to fetch DD, - which means I have to watch the Grand National as he has a horse in the work sweepstake. I've forgotten its name though - Bally something I think

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/04/2011 13:47

am sure you'll be a great help to her KK - hope everything goes well for her.
I find the Grand national a bit worrying-probably because of the poor injured horses :-( Do you think Mr KK's luck with winning things extyends to horse racing ? Grin

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 09/04/2011 13:51

I doubt it MAS Grin - I agree with you about the GN, I don't like watching it - I normally leave him to it - I'll probably just switch on at the end to find out who won.

coorong · 09/04/2011 15:22

Hi new rather anxious one here. I had a very slightly sore breast (so slight that I hardly notice) and gp referred me on (I thought it was nothing) but on Thursday they discovered "differentiated tissue) and I've now had 2 lots of biopsies and they said it would take a week to look at. Does anyone know why the long wait. I thought they could tell in couple of hours.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/04/2011 16:11

hello coorong - I think that biopsy results vary from hospital to hospital..mine were ready in a couple of days, but a week is about right. The wait is horrible of course...have they made an appointment for you to go back for the results ?

OP posts:
EasterChickAndRabbitKurri · 09/04/2011 16:32

hello coorong - sorry to hear you are going through the horrible waiting process. MAS is right - I think it varies from hospital to hospital - I waited two weeks for one lot of biopsy results and about ten days for another. It is vry tough, so if you'd like a bit of handholding - you've come to the right place. Smile

MAS - DH's horse has just won - would you believe it? !Grin

EasterChickAndRabbitKurri · 09/04/2011 16:34

Oh - forget to say I've had an Easter name change - in case you didn't recognise me Grin

coorong · 09/04/2011 17:16

thanks - am thinking the worst (of course). I'm due back Thursday am. I told the radiologist I want to be a "boring" patient. I have no symptoms (no lumps, nothing), and was only referred because I had a bit of pain (hardly any) in my left breast. Thought it was from lifting my daughter.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/04/2011 17:36

KK - I do believe it ! your dh is Mr Lucky !!

coorong- pain isn't usually a symptom of bc -if that's any comfort.

OP posts:
sandripples · 09/04/2011 18:05

HI,

A couple of my friends love zumba and rave about it. The class clashes with my weekly swim though so I haven't tried it. Not sure I couod keep going for an hour but it looks fun when I peek in after swimming!

Our Polish guest is little wearing - never stops talking - but is out looking very hard for work so can't say he's mot trying. Incredibly intelligent man with 2 PHDs and an acadmeic career behind him but now no work or money and can't draw pension for another 7 years (ie at 70) - ghastly situation really.

Welcome to new members on the thread - I am now quite an old member but went through complete treatment last year (Lumpectomy, lymph node clearance, chemo and rads) and now feel fantastic (6 months after treatment ended now) so don't despair - you will come out the other end even if it seems black now.

I have a friend staying so better go.
Love to all.
