Have a good day and a hassle free mammo, MAS!

The injection thing in the back is supposed to be pretty miraculous - we shall see.

Well done SR on the weight loss -Yay! and no more ache joints! Woo hoo!

Pink, I am glad the scan is over and you got some nice time in the fresh air. I am sure you will be OK infection wise, my onc told me not to fret too much and just live life, with a few precautions and as little worry as possible.

How lovely to get raspberries and ice cream, especially with the cheeky wine addition.

smee · 07/04/2011 11:37

Hope the mammo's quick and not too uncomfortable, MAS. Is DS singing in the concert?

Cakes I had the back injections, but my back had already collapsed too far for them to work. I know a couple of people who totally swear by them though, so definitely worth going for.

My Consult yesterday was good - lovely Surgeon decided not to discharge me, as he says the pain I'm having might be sortable - he thinks it's related to the other two discs that were in crisis, so has ordered another MRI, which is good of him. Honestly Cakes, once you reach the right person for your back, it's astounding how good the care is - getting to them is the hard part. Definitely get on that phone.

Pinks, see I knew you were in the right place, as we all seem to garden our way through chemo on here. Glad you got the ct done. Have you had your op yet? Can't remember which way round you are.

Kurri, did DH get through okay? Bet he's glad that's over.

SR, this stray male your DH has invited to stay, is this something he does often?! Shock Sounds like mighty hard work to me.

Hope all others are enjoying the sun and feeling okay. I think Figgy and LGF are like Pink, so should be on the up now? And LJ you're still at a low-ish point, so hope you're okay. Sparkle, you haven't told us what the school was like.

I've got my parents staying, but have shovelled them out the door to do some touristy London type things. They've never fully understood that just because I'm at home, doesn't mean I don't have to work. Ah well, will pour wine down them later to make up for it. Got the school Easter disco later too. Should be funky. Grin

Cakesandale · 07/04/2011 11:45

Your back guy sounds good smee, I am inspired to get on the phone. I hope he can sort your remaining trouble. I think I am going to need surgery ultimately, but the injections are a first resort - apparently whatever needs doing is 'not straightforward', whatever that means. Hmm

DH's Mum and aunt are just like your parents - think they can phone at any time and then witter on for ages, hoik DH out of work to pick up randoms from the airport and ferry them to wherever - the lot. The sense of grievance they display on the (rare) occasions he refuses is incredible!

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/04/2011 11:50

thanks smee and Cakes- and yes,ds is singing in the concert (he won't divulge what though)
Am a bit alarmed at odd people coming to stay with SR Grin
Hope your parents have a jolly visit smee and you can get on with some work !

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 07/04/2011 12:40

If my dh had invited a random houseguest indefinitely, fur would fly!

smee · 07/04/2011 13:03

Am hoping for SR's sake, he has undisclosed talents. Grin

Cakesandale · 07/04/2011 13:53

Possibly making borscht and serving vodka slammers?

KurriKurri · 07/04/2011 13:56

Random house guests staying indefinitely? - I think I'd go madder .
Hope your parents have a nice stay Smee - do they live a long way away? And glad your back consultation went well, back pain are such an exhausting thing to deal with.

I hope the injection work well for you Cakes - when are you having them done?

MAS - sorry about the dream, not very helpful when you've got a busy day the next day. Also wish you a hassle free mammo. and good luck for DS in his concert - am intrigued about his song choice Smile

DH got through dinner in one piece - he didn't have to do much talking apparently as there were more senior bods there who did all the chat. He had a plate of scallops, a large steak and a creme brulee - which all came back to bite him on the bum in the night in the form of extreme indigestion. I told him my raspberries and ice cream had gone down very nicely Grin

Spent the morning in town with DS getting fabrics for puppetry - so I will make a start on the sewing this afternoon.
DD is coming home for easter on Saturday, though she's got to write up her final dissertation, and is planning on spending her time at the library - so I won't see much of her.

Well done on the weight loss SR - I'm glad you are feeling the benefits energy wise - can you send me some of your will power please? - I am sadly lacking!

I hope everyone on treatment is feeling OK today - LJ how are you doing? - haven't heard from you for a few days, hope everything is OK, take it easy Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/04/2011 14:02

exciting getting the fabrics !
ds isn't singing solo-it's the New York choir -even so,he is very secretive about what they're singing-as he is about his songs for his exam.
He has his timetable and info about his GCSE RS exam which they do in yr 9 -sometime in May- naturally he didn't show us,I found it in his bag....
off very shortly to hospital.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 07/04/2011 14:03

and dh's supper sounds yummy-sorry that he got indigestion though Smile

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 07/04/2011 14:24

I hope the concert is fab, and the anticipation over song choice is worth the wait! Personally I like a surprise!

Getting the fabrics is very exciting indeed, I am in awe that you sew, KK.

DH's dinner sounds very nice and not too challenging after all. What a shame that it resulted in indigestion - very miserable in the night.

I know what you mean about willpower, but I have just this minute signed up to become thin with minimal effort on my part Hmm. I am hoping to circumvent the entire willpower thing. My hypnotherapy guy is doing a group session on Saturday 30th April about weight loss and juicing. Apparently the guest speaker lost 3 and a half stone in 10 weeks through hypnosis and juicing. Hmm again - but i thought it was worth a go for a fiver. I've emailed it to all my mates as well, urging them to sign up if they don't want to start looking fat standing next to me Grin

I have lost a bit actually. I think it is the combination of giving up chocolate for Lent, and not having wine in the week.

I don't know when I am having the injections, yet, KK. There seems to have been a hold up that I need to get to the bottom of. It was scheduled for last month and then cancelled with no explanation Confused

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/04/2011 16:35

My BIL is a hypnotherapist and does weightloss things- he seems quite successful- not sure if he includes juicing !! My current FBS is ridiculously bad for you but delicious brioche -esp. the Waitrose Brioche Nanterre which is sublime.
Am back from mammo- all very quick and efficient and only uncomfortable on the sideways ones.
The song'll be something contemporary, they always are (actually there are 2 I think)

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/04/2011 22:03

New York Choir did a trad. Kyrie (v nice) and a Cee Lo Green number (Forget you) Only 2 boys in the choir !
Staff choir did a very good job on Abba's Fernando

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 07/04/2011 22:05

That sounds a nice evening MAS - my DS is a big Cee Lo green fan, and I like that song. Smile

pinkstarlight · 08/04/2011 00:26

smee.. im having chemo first, been out and brought some new plants i figured i wont be going on holiday this summer so may aswell have a nice garden to relax in.

cakes...good luck with the injections i hope you get them soon and well done for losing some weight.

ive had a bit of a headache all day today not sure if its a side effect from the dye they use for the ct scan i had yesterday also got a nasty bruised arm, they only ever seem to get veins in the one arm.sat down at lunch time and then snoozed for 3 hours woke cuddled up with my cheeky dog who had sneaked on the settee .

lilruthie · 08/04/2011 09:54

Hi to everyone was diagnosed with breast cancer on tuesday and am booked in for a mastectomy on the 15th april, all i want to do is cry and shut myself away at the moment, am having very angry outbursts just basically feeling like crap, has anyone on here had breast cancer or had a mastectomy??? would be nice to chat to someone. My mum was diagnosed in 2004 with breast cancer and had a mastectomy she was 60yrs old and is doing very well now but now she has the worry of me and am feeling so guilty cos i know how much she is going to worry about me cos we are really close, just dont want to bring her down now that she is doing well....

Hugs Ruthie xxx

Cakesandale · 08/04/2011 09:57

The concert sounds great MAS, good on your ds!

pink, I often get a headache after any procedure, it could be stress relaxing. Just take it steady - and bless your cheeky dog! Any sleep is enhanced by the presence of a well-behaved dog.

MAS - interesting what you said about hypnotherapy and weight. I am very keen....

Yikes though! Bad news on injection front! You may remember it was booked and cancelled - I have been meaning all week to phone and ask when it might be rearranged. The old back was especially crap last night. This morning I got a call from the hospital asking why I wasn't at my appointment. Apparently it was rearranged, they just didn't tell me Sad I can't get there today either as dh's car tyre exploded last night and he needs my car. Fortunately they believed me and are going to rearrange the appointment - but it would have been good to get onto it today.

In other news, I just succumbed to the Mumsnet special price wine offer, then turned to BBC News to find more news linking alcohol consumption to breast cancer. Bugger. Another treat ruined.

Cakesandale · 08/04/2011 10:00

Cross post Lilruthie. This is a breast cancer thread. Most (but not all) of us have had it. Maybe read through some of the thread, it may help a bit. We are here if you want to talk.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/04/2011 10:16

grrr about them not bothering to tell you about appointment Cakes - that is crappy.

Ds skulked around the back of the choir-I suspect they may have stuck him there as his voice is a bit boomy at the moment - but he always looks very self conscious - think it's a teen thing-very sweet younger boy in choir who seem cheery and sang a solo bit -hope ds becomes friendly with him. I do fret about my solitary boy - he is odd, nicely odd,but I worry- I,though shy,was much more sociable and outgoing than he is - but I find it hard even now (last week at the outing was an example) - gah !

Ruthie- just ask if there's anything you want to know about your treatment - we have all been through it and have different experiences.

Am off to see my mum as dad is away today
Wine in moderation, in fact anything in moderation is the best thing- even if they warn against moderate consumption - after all indulging in these treats is such a boost to your emotional good health and that must be ok...so enjoy your wine order (Laithwaites thing has just dropped through our door...)

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 08/04/2011 10:43

Your ds is a lovely boy and I am sure he is happy in his way. I still think girls are going to go CRAZY for him any day now. He's good looking, kind, sensitive, what's not to like?

I hope your Mum is OK and your dad has a nice day to himself, it is beautiful here so a good day to get out and about.

I shall endeavour to enjoy my wine Wink my BCN also thought a few glasses are therapeutic. We also have Laithwaites, but this Mumsnet offer seemed too good to miss!

pinkstarlight · 08/04/2011 10:44

lilruthie... you have come to the right thread everyone is so supportive here as they have either been throught it or going through it now. i have just started chemo and will be having an op later then radiotheraphy,my worst time was after i was told that they expected my biopsy results to come back as cancerous i cried for a whole week while waiting for the results i was terrified.im sure once your op is out of the way your fighting spirit will come back.

cakes.. if its any consolation im not much of a drinker more of a social drinker or do i mean binge drinker lol.sorry to hear there has been a mix up over your hospital appontment same thing happened to me when i was refered to the breast clinic my appointment never came through the post then i had to wait an extra 10 days before they could see me.

must be a thing in the air for painting,im off to paint my fence.

Cakesandale · 08/04/2011 11:02

pink - you are allowed to rest you know Wink

Go easy on the fence...

pinkstarlight · 08/04/2011 11:32

cakes.. its took me all this time just to open the bloody tin not started yet and im already having a rest lol .

LimeJellyforBrains · 08/04/2011 11:37

Hi everyone! Sorry I can't pick up on everything I've missed this week, but:

Figgy: So sorry you had such an awful time, thought as much. Hope those injections keep you out of hospital now! Have pretty achy legs, assume that's the injection I have then, but nothing in comparison...

Cakes: Congrats to your DD on the TKD belt and the year-early pen licence! My DH has had two lots of trouble with discs - had an op in 2006 to snip off the bulging bits of two in his back. Then in 2009 excruciating pain in his neck (started off being diagnosed as frozen shoulder...). He was on ADs - Amitryptiline? - amongst other drugs. The idea is that at a certain dose they dull nerve sensation I think, they did help him but he had weird, vivid dreams on them. So last Sept he had 2 discs in his neck replaced with artificial ones - pretty scary op! He was on course to have the injections with his back I think but decided to skip straight to the op.

Kurri: your poster is fantastic and you are far too modest!

I have definitely been slower to surface this time. After my last post on Sunday I got terrible heartburn/indigestion, must have been my dear friend's cooking! (or dodgy defrosting) Have also felt sick and had gurgly tum every day this week after meals, especially lunch, apart from last night. Tend to have bagged salad with my lunch. Was wondering if it was that - washed it yesterday but still felt pretty sick, so think will have to cut the salad and switch to a stodgy sandwich lunch Sad.

This lovely lovely weather is a great help - planted some seeds yesterday: courgettes, sprouting broccoli, sweet peas, snapdragons. Did lots of weeding. Feeling pretty good today too Smile
