Need to make a decision by fri when I go to gp. Was swaying towards implant but there have been more headlines today about it failing...

I have the implant, many GP surgerys aren't actually trained in it and you will be referred to FP clinic... there I was told the majority of women who got 'pregnant' on the implant were either already in the very early stages of pregnancy, or it was inserted wrong by untrained peeps.

the one with the headlines is called implanon - the latest one is nexplanon and I have it, was a breeze really!

I have only had mine in a month - but knowing I would normally be due on within a week I would be getting hormonal, and so far (touch wood) its all chilled in the nora house!

I have the implant, have had it for nearly a year and no obvious side effects. The January press coverage was very overhyped, much made of the fact that 'hundreds' of women had got pg, whilst not mentioning that this was over 11 yrs and that the implant was used by hundreds of thousands of women in that time.

I had it fitted at the Family Planning Clinic.

I'm getting a copper coil, I like having no hormonal interference for a great sex drive Smile

I would say have the coil as you are covered straight away. Plus you very rarely hear of women becoming pregnant with the mirena (the coil with hormones)

I had the mirena coil in for 3 years. Just had it removed recently and my periods have gone straight back into a regular pattern. I didn't have a period the whole time I had it in, which was great! It was painless having it put in and amazingly quick to have it taken out. I was so shocked my G.P showed it to me to prove that she really had taken it out!
