numb big toes!

I've noticed over the past few weeks both my big toes have gone numb - all the time and then occasionally my toes will ache/tingle - like pins and needles. I think as well (although could be being paranoid) that the tips of my other toes are also going numb...

I've been to the GP and am having blood tests for vitamin b12 deficiency and blood glucose to rule out diabetes, but just wondered if anyone else has had this.

I'm coeliac and have a thyroid disorder, but as far as I know there's no obvious connection - except the possible vitamin B12.

Anyone with any experience much appreciated!

The first thing that popped into my head was diabetes. My dad just before he went in insulin (was diet and tablet controlled first) started to loose feelings in toes and finger tips.

Hope your test results come back as something positive and easy to fix.

Thanks for your reply! I'm a bit worried it might be diabetes - fingers crossed it isn't....

could be related to your thyroid

DottyDot · 21/03/2011 09:46

Hi - yes I hope it is - much easier to sort out! I haven't had a thyroid blood test for a few years (am a terrible patient), so it's good anyway I'm getting checked out.

meds may well need tinkering.

Ho hum. Had the blood tests yesterday - results come back on Tuesday. Toes are still numb so I'm kind of a bit worried, but as long as it doesn't stop me going to the shops today (pay day) then life can't be all that bad... Smile

have you got a back injury?

DottyDot · 26/03/2011 21:42

No, my back's fine - no problems there at all.

a numb big toe is often caused by pressure on the nerve that runs down your leg,the side of your calf and then to your big toe and sometimes causes numbness in the next toe too. you may have a disc that is slightly in the wrong place or a degenerative disc problem which most people get as they get older. My son who is 18 has degenerative disc problems and didnt know about it til he had an xray.
