I had a mammogram at the end of July and the Doc. saw something he didn't like. I was immediately taken to have an ultrasound and this showed that I have multiple cysts. I was recommended to have another ultrasound in 6 months but I was worried about leaving it that long in case it is something nasty so I am going back in a couple of weeks.I have been told that it is very common at my age 46 and that I shouldn't worry too much about it.Its apparently hormonal and part of pre-menopause .

I got the results immediately but that may be because it was done privately. (i'm in Greece and most medical care is private)The doctor did give me a running commentry as he was doing the ultrasound, so maybe your mum can ask him what he saw.

Hope everything is fine with your mum.

thanks for that...it was a lump she found weeks ago! We have to wait till 4 o'clock when she goes..keeping my fingers crossed! It gives you a wake up call when something like this happens........by the way GRMUM what part of Greece are you in?

Weeks ago ain't bad; friend's mother took months between initial doctor's advice ("You should have that lump looked at" and getting a mammogram scan.

All I know about lumps is that most are benign, but the risk of not being benign goes up with age.

Hope all is well with your mum. I'm living on the very outer N. suburbs of Athens.

Hi Angeliz,

Just wanted to say she may not get the results back straight away - mum is going through this at the moment.

She had a routine mammogram which showed up a lump - she went back on Tuesday for more tests and ended up having 8 mammograms, a needle aspiration and ultra sound and a biopsy.
We have to wait until next Wednesday for the Results.

I hope everything is OK - i know how horrible it must be for you!

When is the best time to examine breasts for lumps if breastfeeding. Common sense tells me to do it after I've fed my dd at night as she feeds on both sides and afterwards both boobs are about the same size and empty of milk. Also, how often should I examine and when as I don't have a monthly cycle to follow what with breastfeeding. Hope it's not a daft question but I've often wondered about it and at 31 it's about time I examined myself more regularly.
