Migraines ruining my life pt 2 (now it might not be migraine at all)

I posted a while ago ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/1157765-Migraines-ruining-my-life in case anyone's interested). After harassing my doctor she agreed to get me a neurologist appointment. 13 weeks just to see one, then possibly another 10 for a scan. And DH cancelled the health insurance without telling me years ago Angry.

Well I had an amazing bout of good fortune, and was able to go private. The doc said he couldn't believe I hadn't had a scan, and would get me one which I had today! I just have to wait for the results now, but I'm a little bit scared. Part of me wants a clear result but that means more migraines. Part of me wants something to be there, nothing serious but something they can just um...scoop out...if that doesn't sound too gross. The neurologist DID say that it doesn't sound like migraine and it's not normal (Really? Tell my bloody doctor that). And MRI's are scary as.

No point to this post really, just after a little hand holding :(. I'm so, so scared and I don't know what I hope for as a result. Good news is I can get some living allowance. It's all still ongoing and I've been told if something shows up I should take action against my dr. Sorry for waffling, just wanted to get it all off my chest.

It's good that there's been some action. Hopefully all will be well there'll be some simple cure. Let us know how it goes.

It can't be easy and of course you feel scared.

Glad they are doing something about it, lets hope the results come back showing something simple.

Tell me about your MRI - I have one next week on my brain and I am dreading it. Was it really horrible?

haggis01 · 17/03/2011 13:20

I am so glad you got a scan. I had an MRI done about 15 years ago after going to the GP's for over a year with problems including falling over and severe dizzines, migraines etc (I finally managed a to get a referral from a locum when GP was on holiday).

The scan wasn't bad at all - you have to take off all your jewellery etc and lie on the bed which then gets electroniaclly moved into the machine. you are only in up to just about where your breasts begin if it is a head scan. The staff talk to you through the speakers and put you at ease - it is very noisy once it starts but is over quickly.

I still have ongoing problems with Menieres/migraine associated vertigo - docs still can't decide which but I was mightily relieved to have a clear result - hope you get the all clear too.

Thanks haggis, I had visions of it lasting about an hour and being trapped in the tunnel!

Stropzilla · 17/03/2011 19:56

No the scan wasn't that bad. A little loud but the music helped, and the staff were amazing. Linda spoke to me all the way through and by the end I was quite relaxed. They do give you a button to press if you need out, and it only took about 10 mins. And I love your name, Kuckingfunt!

And thanks for the messages, am feeling calmer.

Thanks Stropzilla, I'll be ok if it only takes 10 minutes or so. I just desparately need to find out why I am dizzy all the time.

Glad you are feeling calmer.

Stropzilla · 17/03/2011 22:03

Wow yes you do, that sounds bad. Word of warning if you're dizzy, coming out is the most disorienting thing ever. The buzzing and low pitched noises and vibrations really made me feel spinny coming out, so get up slow. And take chewing gum, I ended up with a metallic taste in my mouth from the magnets apparantly.

Thanks for the warning, I hadn't thought of that but yes I suppose it would make you feel a bit strange when you come out.

When do you get your results?
