MMR PANIC ATTACK

Hi folks, my ds2 was booked in for his MMR this am and I've cancelled it......

DS1 was immunised and was fine, I had not doubts he would be and what with all the new press saying there is no link between the triple and autism etc why should I be worried?

For the last week I've been stressed out worrying over it, it just doen't feel right this time, do you know what I mean? I look at him and think 'this isn't the right way for you'.

My instinct is in overdrive, it just feels so WRONG. Have I gone mad?

no you're not mad,I thought about it for a good year before ds had his.

Do some research and don't worry too much.I think it does no harm to wait.

Thanks polly28, just need some reassurance I think.

Spent the weekend on the net looking at statistics etc, (death rate for measles had dropped by 95% BEFORE any immunisations were introduced purely because of better diet and general health care)

I have mumps and rubella as a kid and got through it ok, I think most people did didn't they?

Thinking of looking into single jabs (NHS don't offer this do they).

pfer, can you analyse why you are feeling this way? what does your dh/dp think? have you talked it through with other mums?
lots of people do leave it until later - sorry to state the obvious but the counterbalancing risk is obviously that ds will catch one of the infections in the meantime, this may or may not worry you.
sometimes instinct can be a powerful thing...

buffy......no, I don't understand why I feel this way. ds2 is by far sturdier than ds1 has ever been. There's just something there that doesn't feel right. I'm not prepared to leave him unprotected though, as mentioned am thinking about looking at singles. who know's maybe 6 months down the line I may feel different, but right now I just can't in good faith as a mum do it...

oh yes, DH says that if I'm not comfortable with it then not to do it and that he's more than OK to cough up for private jabs....

My DD is booked in for this afternoon she's 15 months I decided to leave it a bit longer but with moving to a new area and starting mother and toddlers plus the winter and stopping BFing her I wanted her to be protected. I've debated it so much and also read up on it so much but have decided to get her done.

not mad at all...wehn ds was going for his I actually sat in the waiting room begging dh for us to leave...lol WE had both researched it but I just wasnt 100%. Ds did have it anyway but i will still probably do the same with db when it is there turn.

Well........ i think you have gone a bit mad but then I am an immunisation advocate.

Your feelings don't sound rational (apart from the bit where you have decided that having mumps, measles and rubella arent that bad), but if you are the type that trusts your instincts and you can be sure its not just a knee jerk reaction to bad media coverage then go for it.

Enid, thanks for the honesty. Can't say as I understand it either. As I said DS1 has been jabbed up to the hilt and he's OK, I've always thought mums who didn't keep up with immunisation as being selfish, not only to their own little ones but to other peoples who are too young to be jabbed......I can get quite cross about it when caught in the wrong mood.

Nothing has happened to change my mind, and I still firmly believe that kids should be immunised - in fact only last week it was announced that there is NO credible link between MMR and any problems.

As for my instincts, well I left my first dh on the grounds that my instinct told me to, he ended up beating his next partner on a reg. basis, I have been known to have a natural adversity against women/child beaters without even knowing just finding out later.

DS2 has been accused by the health visitor of having all sorts of diff health probs. Despite my disagreeing with her all the way along I've had him poked and prodded by experts only to be proven right - on my instincts again..

So I tend to trust them, and at the moment they are screaming at me that the MMR is not right for DS2....

Near Lincoln, looked on the net over the weekend, found a few private clinics but they were all miles away....

if you want singles type in single jabs or something like that into archived messages and you'll find loads of recommendations. Singles would seem a good compromise to your worries.

Pfer, I understand how you feel. I felt the same about DS?s MMR and went for the single jabs.

Bet it's no where near me!!! just had a quick look in archives - JABS - the pressure group used to send out lists of clinics, will try and find the website.

missed your last two posts! I guess you have to weigh up what is practical against how severe your worry is. I am sure there must be a clinic near you - www.jabs.org.uk have a list of contact numbers with people near you who can recommend single jabs clinics - there are contact numbers in cambridge, ipswich and norwich as far as i can see. HTH

Fab news, got a clinic within about 1 hrs drive. anyone in lincolnshire the website is www.goodhealthkeeping.co.uk. Sounds a nice place, nice loooking site, have just downloaded the single vaccinations bit... will have a read..

Ha ha! I was going to recommend them to you but wasn't sure how far they were from you [geography was never my strongest point] I have spoken to them on the phone - they are brilliant - wsa going to go there myself but too far - about four hours away. Good luck!

I have ages beore I need to think about it. But my sister came to visit the other day and she has an Autistic son and I can tell you this I would not like to walk a mile in her shoes!
To have single jabs regardless if the MMR is safe cannot do any harm can it? I have read all your replies and still think that single jabs is the best route to go, why risk it!
