Post Op Gallbladder removal ~ diarroah

Had my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago. Went for a curry fri night - chicken tikka masala so lots of fat.

Felt nauseous most of the weekend and pooed myself twice Blush Sad I have never in my life done this before. So thankful I was at home!

Is this just a one off (maybe body adjusting post op) or will I have a lifetime of having to be strict with my diet? That's probably a good thing as I have a penchant for cake Smile. Anyone else experienced this?

Sounds like you need to take questran. Don't know why doctors don't give this straight away or say go back & see them if you have diarrhoea after having you gall bladder out. Don't suffer - go back to the hospital/your gp today and ask about this. It does soak up fat soluable vitamins so you might need a viatamin suppliment. Don't be fobbed off by the medics. Hope you're feeling better soon

I had my gallbladder out on the 13th Jan. For about a month after I had diarrhoea like you, never had an accident luckily, poor you!

Good news is it passed, and now everything is back to normal.

angelfee's advice is good. Don't suffer with it. Hope it gets better for you soon.

i am amazed you felt like a curry so soon after your op. Maybe you should introduce food very slowly as you have just had a major component of your digestive system removed.

i was warned that you can get diahorrhea after the op but it mostly settles. if not your doc can give you loperamide.

hope it settles soon.

I seem to remember when I had my op (14 yrs ago) that diarrhoea was common in the initial stages of recovery.

Also remember that I was informed that I wouldn't have to adjust my diet.

WRONG! I have to avoid high fat foods otherwise I feel very sick and ill for days.

Thanks all for the replies. I felt normal by Tues this week. Bleugh, felt really ill over the weekend. Angelfee, questran looks great and something I would seriously consider if diarrhoea became a regular thing. Please no! Was mortifying to poo myself.
pigpog, glad to hear everything's settled for you and you've had no trouble since. Gives me hope that my body really is just adjusting itself...
alypaly, i know, but was it a nice curry. will be well gutted if i can no longer have tikka marsala. it's my absolute fave, always order it.
jalopy, generally i follow a low fat diet, but every now and then i really fancy something indulgent and naughty. i felt so rotten after the curry that it just wouldn't be worth it, so really hope it was a one off...
