Arrrrgggghhhhhhhhhh! Right calf twanged audibly much to the shock of my Year 6 during rounders last week!!! Bloomin' agony is not the word, have never done this before and can't believe how weird my calf feels. Am miserably immobile altho doing crutches and painkillers to get around. When will it start feeling less weird and more back to normal?

You poor thing. I did this a couple of years ago and it does really hurt! Like you, I heard a twang and it also felt as if someone had kicked the back of my calf. I'm sure you've been told, but have lots of ice packs, rest and painkillers.
I think it took about 3 weeks to get completely better, but I could hobble about without crutches for short distances after a few days. Good luck, I hope someone is there to help you out.

ibroprufren (sp ) is the way to go .
Slow release ones are good at night .
Really cannot imagine teaching with this .
Respect!

Bless you both I am heartened by the notion of a three week healing period as are my family who are on the thin-end of my rapid change in demeanour from good 'ole mum to barking dictator as I struggle to deal with it all!! The teaching is fine, the kids couldn't be more obliging gawd love 'em altho' had to knock back one lad's offer to carry me out to the playground! Sheesh...right time for painkillers! Thnx.

Are you sure you've not snapped your achilles tendon?

Doowrah · 16/03/2011 22:17

Not according to my local hospital...

ok, but it did sound suspiciously like it

gingeroots · 16/03/2011 23:14

mmm,now you mention it - an audible twang isn't usual with a pulled muscle is it ?

Doowrah · 17/03/2011 19:14

I spent 3 hours in casualty only to come away not having seen a doctor!!! Nightmare! Saw the triage nurse who tells me if I can walk the tendon is ok. I can walk more of a hobble really..Couldn't stay any longer cause had to work. Have booked in with GP for monday may try again at casualty over the weekend have even phoned my friend who is a doctor and left a message asking him to come over and give it the once over!! Bloomin glad my son's NHS experience was so good when he broke his arm recently...with this it seems a right fiasco!
