Excuse the spelling please!

I had a sore throat, headache, fever, painful ears 2 weeks ago. Went to see the gp who said it could be a throat infection or viral and told me to wait 72 hours and if it hadnt got better to get my antbiotics he perscribed me.

I waited and it got a bit better so i didnt take them but after lots of coughing my throat hurt but i put this down to the cough. 1 week later (friday) my throat suddenly started being really painful to swollow - i couldnt even eat! I then decided to start taking the anti-biotics fri evening. This morning it felt lots better but suddenly this evening its really painful again down just te rigt side of my throat/ear n hard to swollow, almost as bad as fridays.

Does anyone have any idea whats happening to me? i'm gonna google if no one replys Blush

Sounds like something I'm just getting over - possibly throat ulcers? Which I think is more often viral than bacterial and may be a sign of being run down.........I found codeine helped but ibuprofen helps if you can take it

i'm breastfeeding so at the min can only take paracetamol, feel a bit reassured that it sounds 'normal',sorry you've been through the same, hope ur fully better asap.

I have had the same thing for about 10 days. Started off like a normal bad cold with blocked sinuses and sore throat, and then lost voice completely but throat then not as sorre. Voice returned last week but so did the sore throat again. I think it is a virus that is going around and just needs to run it's course. As you are breast feeding and cannot take many pain killers have you tried Manuka honey? Buy the highest grade of it you can afford, and take a spoonful of it every now and then when throat really sore. It has healing properties and antibacterial properties, and also really soothes the rawness of the throat. I nave been using it and it is helping. I didn't bother to get an antibiotic as most throat infections are viruses which don't respond to antibiotics. Drink plenty, and take vit c and zinc too. Keep well x

Thank you am36 i'll have to look for manuka honey. I've just been using normal honey when it was sore but its more painful now. I'm definately going to buy some multivitamins as i seem to catch everything my 3 year old brings home from nursery! Didnt want to take anti-b's as it can cause thrush wen bf so i've been drinking te actmil yoghurt drinks to try and stop it. Hope ur well now x

I agree with you and the 3yr old problem...my dd is nearly 4 and seems to share every bug with me from nursery! Though I have been told that the local school where she will be going can always tell the children who have been to nursery as they don't seem to get sick as much as they have already had most of the viruses etc going and have developed good immunity
,... We shall see if the school was right next year! Lol..
Manuka honey is the best but until you can get some you could try sucking a jelly type sweet?... I found a bag of my dd's treats/bribes.. In the cupboard..the jelly worm things from m+s and I sucked one of those..it soothed the throat quite well..must be the glycerine in it or something. Of course gargling with salted water is also good, but not as much fun as the jellied sweets!
If you have the heat on in your house sometimes the air can get really dry and irate your throat too, so maybe think about using steam to see if that helps too.
