Can someone talk Progesterone supplements to me?

I had a nightmare period which just wouldn't stop - got to Day 14 and the GP gave me two week's worth of Progesterone. It's stopped the bleeding but I have questions:

  • what happens when I stop taking them? He mentioned a "breakthrough bleed" - does he mean a dummy period like you get on the Pill? And then what - 4 weeks and I should get a normal period? When I spoke to him I was feeling so shit I wasn't paying attention.
  • I've put on a ton of weight. About half a stone - my appetite has increased and I'm just grazing constantly. Is this the Progesterone or am I just mutating (normally pretty slim)?

I think the answer is wait and see. I had a friend who was peri meno and she took those pills for ages before HRT.
It IS a withdrawl bleed, yes.

It MIGHT make you feel fat.

I take progestins for 10 days every 12 weeks as part of HRT regime- they make me feel bloated, ratty and keen to eat carbs and sugar.

But half a stone in 2 weeks is some going! are you seriously over eating?

Thanks for answering - yes, bloated, ratty and carb-craving just about sums me up. Half a stone in 2 weeks is bloody impressive, I agree - I have been eating like a horse, and largely eating shite. Will get my act together.
