Does anyone know roughly how long it takes to clear up? I have it really bad at the moment and the doctor has given me Penicillin. I really need to get better , as I have a 8 month old who is teething and not sleeping well!

Oh no, poor you. Do all you can to boost your system - lots of water, sipped not gulped to reduce chances of vomiting, extra vit c, zinc and garlic capsules in between meals so they don't repeat on you. I will keep my fingers crossed you can get some childcare help so you can sleep a bit more and you feel better soon. Best of luck...

I had a bad case of that last year, and didn't feel great for at least 2 weeks. Lucozade was good, and make sure you have lots of vitamin enriched meals, fresh veg soup etc. Hope you feel better soon, and try not to try and do too much too soon if at all possible

I used to get it for about a week. Poor you - I think it's the worst thing I've ever had.

I found it started to get better after a few days on antibiotics.

Things to get it moving quicker are gargling with salt water, or soluble aspirin. If you can't get your temperature down, use two types of drug (I think it was ibuprofen and paracetamol but please check as I'm not sure) so that you're taking one more regularly. There is also a numbing throat spray you can buy from the chemist if your throat is agony.

Hope you feel better soon. If anyone can come and help you with your baby rope then in.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My husband is doing his best to look after me and thanks for the tip nora12 about the painkillers. I'll look into it.

on the two painkillers thing best to alternate ibruprofen and paracetamol, taking one dose every 3 hours i.e. take one dose paracetamol 3hours late take ibruprofen 3 hours later take paracetamol, this gives round the clock painkiller without overdosing on either. Works well with kids too.

If you are dead to the world tonsillitus 2-3 days of antibiotics in bed and up around the house on the 3 day and out on the 4th. As others have said before you energy levels might not be up to much cop for quite some time afterwards. If your semi dead you'll up and around in 2!

DO THE BED REST, makes sure the antibiotics have a chance to work so it doesn't come back. (Trust me recurring tonsilitus is horrible Sad )

sometimes ice-cream on ice sorbet if you have it can have a pleasant effect on the tonsils, numbs a bit.

I think after 3 days of penicillin you will feel a lot better though not well

Yes I couldn't quite remember lunar and didn't want to advise wrong, but I found the temp got so high sometimes I vomited, so it's good to keep it down a bit to feel slightly better.

Used to get it at least twice a year from age 14 to 30 but it's stopped now I'm in my 40's. No idea why.

Pre dcs I remember having a week's bed rest. Those were the days!
