Question about referrals

I've just got a private referral from my NHS GP, but I'm just curious to whether they will send over all my records, or just the ones related to ENT?

They'll probably just send a referral letter summarising your ENT issues. Anything else the consultant will write to your GP to request specific relevant results etc (or being private probably make you have done again at extra expense).

They usually list recent consultations leading to referral + any other serious history or co-morbidities. Eg, they would need to know if a Pt had something that would affect an anaesthetic, blood circulation, heart problems, asthma etc etc.

In our area the GP sends a specific letter relating to your ENT issue, plus a brief summary of your GP notes.

I work in mental health which is how I know this. So the relevant GP will write a page about the person's current mental health. Then often a list is attached. Similar to this.

(patient born 1980 for example)

1985 chicken pox
1990 viral infection
1992 fracture of whatever

etc (but in much more medical language of course)

Your GP notes stay with the GP. The ENT person will just get a letter, most likely with the summary that onepieceoflollipop describes.
The ENT surgeon will be able to ask to have a look at your hospital notes if they need to (if there are any).

Thanks for that, there's nothing they don't need to see, I was just wondering.
